In Hull transducer - Locations?

Anyone use an in-hull (vs. Through hull) transducer? What is the best place to mount in a velocity hull? I have a 30'

Trying to add depth to a gpsmap 640 through the NMEA connection.

Does the 30 have a cored hull?

My factory installed depth sounder "puck" on my 320 and 390 were installed inside and were shoot through the hull. They were centered in front of the engines for accessibility. The baltek core needed to be cut and removed and then the depth sounder bonded directly to fiberglass layer.

I removed the factory sending unit and filled the hole with resin. Garmin makes a unit that you seal to the hull over the resin plug and fill with 50/50 antifreeze and the sensor snaps in the base. Works well if I keep the boat in the water and under 60.
