1990 Regal Velocity Prop Selection
Good Morning OSO Family,
I am typically active over in the Formula section but I recently purchased a 1990 Regal Velocity 23 for a fixer upper project with some sentimental value. Now, understanding that this “era” of the velocity isn’t the 90+ MPH 22’ relics of Steve Stepp or the luxurious Thoroughbred models of today, I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am removing a clapped out aftermarket 468 BBC from the boat and replacing with a factory stock 454/330 because I have one on a pallet fully dressed ready to go. Anyone have any prop information for this setup? it has a 25p on there currently which I’ll pull off and stick on the shelf but I was thinking a 23P Mirage Plus may be the ticket? I heard that the Regal variants were a bit more difficult to carry the bow on when running on the pad, I would assume the Mirage Plus would assist with that. |
I think you are on the right path with your thinking and also if my memory is correct those hulls like Hydromotive Quad4 props too. Good luck.

Always nice to have a visual reference. |
I found my twin. Looks good. I have a question as I have the 91 velocity 23. My main use will not be top end but towing tubes and skiers. It currently has a 4 blade 24p. Does anyone have insight into best prop for my use case? Fuel efficiency wouldn't hurt either.
Has the original 454 and bravo one in it. |
I had a 1989 Regal Velocity with the 454 carb motor. It was either a 24 or 25 pitch Mirage. Tried Hydromotive quad 4s but it ran better with the Mirage. It carried the bow better with the Mirage.

Nice boat, almost purchased one in 1990... went to pickup at dealer only to find out engine block was cracked. dealer forgot to winterize!

The 23 was my first go fast. Fun boat. I put Lightning headers on it and it ran right on 72 mph on a good day! I also took off the muffers when I put the headers on. With the side exit exhaust, it sounded BAD.
