39 Velocity

I am thinking about buying a 39' Velocity. I would like to here any pros and cons about this boat. My wife is pretty hot on the Hustler Sling Shot. Performance wise they seem similar. Which one do you think would be a better rough water boat?

Thanks Frank..

I have been running a 390 for three year all over the country in poker runs. Flat or rough water once you learn to drive a 390 no other boat with the same power and size will out run you! Im building a new one wright now it should be done by the end of May.Just in time for Jacksonville in June.

No Comparision

390 Hands down. The 390 with the same power will outperform the Hustler and guaranteed safer. I have seen a 388 upside down in our lake from a high speed turn. You will not see this with a 390. I know from personal experience

390 will out handle and out run a 388 have been in both with 500s in both no way will a 38 turn with the 390 will it steet

Thanks for the input. Has anyone ever broken a stringer or anything? I understand they weigh about 8000 lbs. The lighter the better as far as I am concerned. But strength is a concern for me. We like to run hard!

You will not have a problem with that boat breaking/Velocitys in general are very well made and a ton of fun to operate, once you learn how to run it be prepared to kick some serious butt on all other equally powered boats, buy the Velocity.
Hey Velocity Tom how is the new boat coming along, they called me the other day and wanted to know if I had a interest in your old 39 FOOTER and I said give me a good number and we can talk,if not I will continue to look fo a 320,so if anyone comes along one please let me know. I also have a gorgeous 280 that I will sell, trade or whatever, just ready to go bigger.

Steet, indeed I am a Velocity brotha'. Being familiar with a vast array of manufacturers, designs and propulsion I must say that I am quite impressed with the structure and design of the velocity line of vessels, having trashed a few other maufacturers boats either deliberately or coincidentally.

Re: 39 Velocity

I went for a ride with Kenny at ST.Cloud races.85 mph with twin 550 v10s.That would be the 41 in Trippin's avitar.I am also a fan of the Velocity. So far i've owned a 22 28 and now having new 290 525hp built. They are all a blast to drive.......Every one at Velocity treats you like family when you visit also.

I've been running a 41 for the past 8 years in the big water of NJ. No breakage and only one small stress crack. The boat has a total of about 400 hours on it, 190 on the pair of 600s that are in it. The 390 is the same exact running surface of the 41, you'll love the boat and the way it handles.

Re: 39 Velocity

Well my wife and I took a ride over to Sanford, visited the Velocity plant and took a test ride on a 2000 390. What an amazing machine. Kenny and all the people we dealt with at Velocity were simply awesome. We have been spending the last couple of weeks learning how to drive it and having fun. We took the boat on the "Unofficial (The Poker Run was canceled due to local politics) OSS St. Pete Fun Run" and smoked everyone except the cats and "Smokin Joe" (A 42 Scarab with tripple 1000s and #6 Drives).

Looking forward to meeting all the Velocity Brothers out there.

Frank

Re: 39 Velocity

Props:

It has stock Bravo 30s has anyone ever tried labed Bravo 32s. It is running right about 5300 with the 30s.

What other prop setups has anyone tried?

Thanks

Velocity Tom 07-02-2004 11:01 AM

Re: 39 Velocity

I had a set of labed 32s on my 390. Still nothing like a hydro.

Re: 39 Velocity

I loved the top end performance of the Hydros but it's tough to beat the all round performance of the Bravos, well at least a set of perfectly labbed Bravos with the diffuser rings cut off. Speed difference might be 1 mph now that I have the props set exactly the way I want. I'm hopefully going to try a set of 5 blade Herrings this weekend just for kicks.
