i found an '84 22 foot Velocity locally,i was wondering if anyone knew how they hanled a 2 foot chop? i'm on the upper Chesapeake Bay and it is always choppy, does anyone know how they run?

Re: 22 Velocity
They handle great in a 2 foot chop, I had an 1984 OB and ran on the middle Chesapeake Bay for 5 years and loved it. I then moved up to a 28. Is the 22 you found in MD? Does it have tabs?

Re: 22 Velocity
Great boat,
Perfect for the upper part of the bay and all of the rivers,I can hook you up with a sweet 22 with a wild V8 outboard.PM Me |

Re: 22 Velocity
1Hyper1 , I have had my 1985 22 velocity since 1987. The boat is a blast to drive. Once you dial in the setup and get the feel of how to keep it up on the pad you will enjoy driving it. It is great to see the expressions on the faces of some of the drivers of larger boats when you go by. Frank sr

Re: 22 Velocity
I've driven and owned both a 22' Velocity and Regal 230 Velocity. They are a blast to drive and handle 2' chop with no problem. You just have to learn to throttle the boat correctly so that your landings are soft. I've recently found a 1988 Regal 230 Velocity with a 7.4/bravo for sale and am contemplating buying it just to bring back some memories and put a grin on my face again!!

I wish I had kept it for my weekday boat. The old 22's and the new 260's are great boats for the money. With moderate power they run great. |

Re: 22 Velocity
An outboard powered 22 is the way to go,roomy, fast, good rough water capabilitys and best of all it will out perform any other boat in its class period, been there and have seen it first hand.

Re: 22 Velocity
Go for it!
I have a 22 with a Yamaha 200 Pro V, that I got new in 1990. It is a great boat that runs fast and handles well offshore. I am starting to refurbish and re-rig after pulling a leaking gas tank. I need some leads on a shop that can do the rigging and electrical. I always wanted to really dial it in and here we go! |
Re: 22 Velocity

Re: 22 Velocity
Thanks Arch,
I live in florida. Do you know anyone out this way? I started following the APBA races in Florida in the mid 80's after I sold a Nordic tunnel I brought with me from New Mexico. I would sit on the shore at the races and was amazed how well the little 22's would run. Gene Whipp helped me get into the Pits to check out the boats. For a couple of years I was a Crew member without a boat! By the time I was ready buy, Regal had the molds. I am really excited about putting the boat back right. Thanks for the info. |
Re: 22 Velocity

Re: 22 Velocity
PIT BULL,
Welcome to OSO. I am currently looking at a 22' here in Jersey. Got to a blast in board member 1Waterboy1's(aka REMARK) this past weekend. Amazed with the performance of the 22' and how great the boat runs in Barneget Bay chop. I can see now why you ran yours the way you did. Looking forward to the day REMARK takes a blast out Manasquan Inlet and comes in through Barneget or vice a versa. Great boat by far. |
Re: 22 Velocity
Dennis..glad to hear Mark's 22 is running well...they're a kick in the azz, aren't they??
should've kept mine.... |
Re: 22 Velocity
Thanks for the compliments DPT....Marty, I am very happy with the boat, and any time you want to run it just let me know. What is so impressive about the boat, is how it runs through the sloppy bay chop like it is not even there.

Re: 22 Velocity
I know..it'll be a blast in the bay...Stopped in Typhoon today, and took a look at it..looks sharp...

Re: 22 Velocity
I had a 1984 Steve Stepp velocity (had it for 11 years) with a 1985 3.4 liter mercury outboard. It was set up with a jack plate, hot foot, and hynautic steering. The boat handled great, it had no problem handling a 2-foot chop. Actually, a light chop appears to be the ideal condition for this hull.

Re: 22 Velocity
Modvp, I am curious , how fast did your 22 run with the 300 hp 3.4. The reason I ask is that from 1987 till 1999.I ran one on my 22 with real good luck. In 1996 I picked up a 3.4 EFI powerhead and ran it for a couple of years. The 15 amp alternator couldn't keep up with the electric fuel pump and other electronics so in 1999 I bought a new 300 promax. Frank
