Cutting Edge Propellers

New at this forum; but just want to give a call out. Bought my first set of 5-blade Cutting Edge Propellers. I've been boating offshore for most of my adult life, and the Cutting Edge props are some of the most smooth performance props I've ever had on my boat. I run a 36-foot twin step Cig with a pair of 500's and just picked up 3 MPH accross the board! Used all the top guys before but I think the new guy on the block, Cutting Edge, is the way to go! At 3600 the boat's running 52 MPH, top speed of 84. Agustin worked diligently with me until we dialed the props in. This was key for me.

He is awesome and has great prices....

We found these to better than the Herring props we have historically invested into, Great Product , Outstanding Performance

tylogan11 10-18-2013 10:52 AM

I've been using them for several years, just shipped them another prop out yesterday to get cleaned up. Auggie will work you until you are completely satified Cutting edge will get all my prop business.

Outstanding performance.

tylogan11 11-07-2013 08:28 AM

Just got my 35 year old prop back from the guy's at Cutting Edge, as you can imagine this prop was is very rough shape before Auggie and the guy's worked there magic. Give them a call they do great work very responsive and great prices. This is my third prop they have worked on and I have had nothing but great service and results with them. I hope this picture will post.

I have two of their custom 5 blade bravo props, one got damaged first day I used it. Sent it back, they cut it down some and straighten it. They told me it would only be a good spare. It still performs so well it's typically what I'm running. The other prop [higher pitch] was so good out of the box, I've yet to send it back to be further tuned as suggested.

Simply told them what I had for power, prop specs I was running, and what change I was looking for. They did the rest, couldn't be happier...

kidturbo 11-08-2013 01:50 PM

Here is a 35" pitch prop they built for me, and I trashed first day by snagging a piece of steel cable [which it cut thru]. I sent it back, Gregg was still involved at that time, he called me up and ask "what should I do with that thing". I said hang it on your wall if ya want man, it's toast so just build me another one. Couple days later he called back and said it's fixed up and on the way to ya so ya have a spare.

It's a bit smaller diameter now [about 1/4 to 1/2 inch overall] but still runs within 2mph of my bigger 37p on top end. They could have just taken my money for building another one and tossed it in the trash. The price charged to fix it was more than fair in my book..

No need to have reduced diameter on that repair.
We would have put it back to the original specs. It would be good as new. It would be a 4ish hour repair though.
I'm not trying to cut down or step on any toes. I'm just doing what I have done on here for the last 8 years. And that is shoot straight with my comments and advice.

No problem Brett, I know plenty of guys who are extremely happy with your props also.

I've never measured exactly what was shaved off it, just can tell it's got a little more clearance than my 37" pitch. Our main concern on that first setup was blade thickness, I'm putting over 1000ft lbs to the water. Before going to the 5 blades, I could blow a 4 blade 32" out of the water at 1/2 throttle and full down trim like it was a 13" radial on a drag car. The 37" heavily cupped I had built hooks up great, just little more slip [21%] on the big end. But I'm only spinning the prop shaft 3000R's @ 80mph.

Always room for improvement, I'll gladly test a prop design for ya. I think they repaired that 35 prop for like $150 shipped, so I was happy.

PS: here is a couple links to data logs of runs between the repaired 35 and the 37. Actually they hit the same top speed, just at different rpms. I'm now being limited by a little hull hook, drive height, the 1:26 ratio, and it's running out of turbo.

I bought 3 props from Cutting Edge. 25p 5 blade. Ran for part of the summer and had slip numbers in the 19-21 range. Sent them off to get worked on with a competitor of Cutting Edge because I could not seem to get Cutting Edge to reply to emails. The competitor was not successful in resolving my issues. So again I have tried to get Cutting Edge to address the bad slip numbers.
To date I have sent 6 emails and between Greg leaving and no satisfaction from current business owner, I'm at a loss on why anyone would want to buy anything from Cutting Edge.
They don't stand behind their product and the manufacturing defects in my props are so bad that I am unable to run them.
I'm happy Cutting Edge has supported some of their customers, but from my experience, buyer beware.

OPIE272 11-13-2013 06:35 PM

If someone could post Auggies email address or phone number that would be helpful.

tylogan11 11-14-2013 07:54 AM

Cutting edge, Give them a call Auggie does great work.

BTW- Greg is longer with Cutting edge and emails do not work call Auggie at this number- they have treated me excellent customer service on three different occasions and from personal expereience I have used other prop company's and Cutting edge will get my business.

kidturbo 11-14-2013 02:48 PM

Opie272, I personally don't know what went down out there, but as stated above Gregg H is no longer involved. I was able to speak with Auggie when I last called and feel that's who you need to speak too about your tuning questions. No doubt they are a "small" operation, but I found their workmanship and pricing to be good in my application.

On a side note, I was fairly aware that going with 5-blades would probably result in higher slip numbers vs a 3 or 4 blade before I started using them. I'm no prop expert for sure, but thru research found a 25p 3-blade is gonna out perform a 25p 5-blade on top end by a few mph. Ya get into all these design aspects like rake, cup, and the related drag that someone on this forum like BBlades could explain in great detail.

In my case, I ask them to build these 5-blades because I was looking to hook up a bunch of torque in a small boat that needed some serious stern lift. Plus the pitch degree I wanted to try was beyond that being offered in an "off the shelf" prop at the time. Rather than spend a couple grand to someone like Hering for a full race tuned prop when I had little idea what I really needed, gave these guys a shot. For the price of a stock bravo unit, got exactly what I requested, a heavier built blade that resolved several other issues I wanted to address. Are my slip #'s higher than I expected? Certainly... Can those numbers be lowered, I believe there is room for improvement, but every style boat performs differently and this usually takes time and money to sort out.

Since I believe the first custom 5-blades they built were mine, the performance data I returned on how it helped me, might be all wrong for you. Just saying.. In my case, I realize several other factors are now impacting my top speed more than any prop can overcome. Once I address those issues, I'll feel more confident about going back after lowering my slip #.

Hope that helps ya..

If emails don't work, then they need to remove the email from "CONTACT US" from their web site
Just saying, I've tried off and on for a year to get a reply.

tylogan11 11-18-2013 10:39 AM

cutting edge. I have had great luck with them.

wanger627 11-26-2013 03:26 PM

I just picked up a 25 pitch Bravo one 4 blade for my 23' ultra from cutting edge and this prop is amazing. Compared to my Bravo one Merc 24 pitch, it's faster out of the hole and I gained about 3 to 4 MPH on the top end. Talk to the owner Augustine and he will work with you until you get the speed and RPM's right. He just reworked the prop for the 3rd time and I'm about to test it out. So far, I've reduced the RPM's by about 100 and gained about 2MHP each try. The last time out, I hit just over 73MHP and I'm hoping to hit 75+ this time around. His prices are great too.

Anyone have a contact number for Augie? I called the contact number on the website and have left 6 message and no call back. Either they r very busy or worst customer service I have seen.

Thanks

OPIE272 12-11-2013 03:42 PM

I just spoke with Ulysses (sp?)
Appears like the business is up and rolling again. Kudos to them for sticking it out and trying to recover from the mess the past owner created. They now have my props and have them in line to be evaluated.
After talking to Ulysses I got the impression they have a whole different business attitude than previous owner.

This is the number I used to contact them. (949) 394-3236.

OPIE272 12-17-2013 08:32 PM

Just talked to Augie and discussed issues with props. From what I can tell, they are trying extremely hard to clear themselves of the reputation G Hitner left them with. There was a distinct difference in business ethics.
I am very satisfied with the communications between myself and Cutting Edge.
