Cutting Edge Series II props

Has anyone tried the Cutting Edge series II 5 blade props yet? I'm thinking about trying a set on my Active Thunder. I know people have been very happy with CE's prop work, but I've not seen many people talk about their props.

bmedfo1 12-23-2018 08:21 AM

I just posted the same question about Hill marine who has a similar 5 blade around the same price. I would also really like to here some feedback about cutting edge.

bmedfo1 12-23-2018 08:30 AM

Found this looks like mostly good. Heard some bad things about an old employee “Greg” who is not involved anymore vomit only good other than that. At $650 a set For 15 1/2 5 blades Its real tempting to just give it a try.

Having a set of 5 blades made this winter from Cutting Edge.

endeavour32 12-24-2018 07:49 AM

Bill,
Have you ran any other 5 blades on your boat? I know that my hull likes the new 5 speed props by BBlades, however the Cutting Edge props are 1/2 the cost. It sounds like the Cutting Edge props come labbed and customized to your boat.

DiamondPerformance 12-24-2018 08:12 AM

Never tried 5 blades on the Donzi 35zr, seems everybody runs Bravo 1's. Cutting Edge 5 blade is a Bravo 1 with one more blade, so I'm told. Good pricing for labbed finish props!

I agree, the pricing is really good, I'm just really curious how they actually work.

DiamondPerformance 12-27-2018 05:55 PM

Heard nothing but good things about them, good customer service. I think their 4 blade is a copy of the Bravo 1.

Good post E32. Prop searching myself and was not aware of these. Will follow, as I am curious how they workout.

You cannot beat the price, especially if they are as good as the Hydro props or BBlades new 5 speed. I would just really like to hear from someone first hand how they worked and what they compared them too.

bmedfo1 12-28-2018 04:17 PM

I have put in an order but will not have them till March. I’ll report back with results. Could be a game changer if they get them right.

endeavour32 12-28-2018 09:06 PM

Is that the current wait time? If so, I may have to order a set as well.

Got Cigs 12-28-2018 09:08 PM

Has any other company made a cleaver style prop for bravo?? Don't believe Ive seen that, only for the bigger Speedmaster drives. Really intrigued if they do work, as I have a heavy straight hull with -2 shorties.

bmedfo1, what boat and drives do you have?

endeavour32 12-28-2018 11:14 PM

You would not want to run a cleaver prop on a straight bottom, you need a round ear for bow lift. I e-mailed them about what to run on my boat, which has a large single 4" step, and I was also told the round ear prop.

ToMorrow44 12-29-2018 12:50 PM

I bought a Cutting Edge 5 blade used off a guy a while back. Just got a chance to run it a few weeks ago and really liked it. About 5mph faster in the midrange, rolled over on plane easily. Didn’t get a chance to run WOT. Im gonna send it back to CE to get some of the dings out of it and blueprint it. I’ve heard great things about their customer service especially tweaking the props for your boat.

endeavour32 12-29-2018 08:53 PM

What were you comparing it with, was the other prop you were running a Bravo?

yes a labbed bravo and a hydromotive q-iv-x is what I usually run.

Coreconstruction 01-01-2019 02:52 PM

I have a set of the round ear 5 blades ordered in 28 pitch.
can't wait to try them.

endeavour32 01-01-2019 08:38 PM

It sounds like in the mid range they are way better than the Bravos. Does anyone have any top end numbers compared to a set of Bravos? Are they equal, better, worse?

No, I talked to Auggie and he is currently developing a 5 blade prop more like the Max 5 that he has recommended for me. he is just casting it now so my props will not be any of the ones shown on the website. I am running twin Flashed* verado 350s with the HD 5.44 lower on a 30' Concept . going to run 23" and shooting for low 80s

endeavour32 01-02-2019 05:07 PM

Is the new Max 5 clone going to be the same price? I need to actually call him. We were e-mailing back and forth, but talking on the phone is a lot better!

DiamondPerformance 01-02-2019 06:42 PM

I ordered the same props around the end of November. Should be ready by March.

just got these pics from him of mine he finished up today.
will ship out tomorrow

endeavour32 01-03-2019 07:14 AM

Those look nice!

bmedfo1 01-04-2019 02:34 PM

Those look amazing, I wonder what the difference between the 5 blades listed on the website and the max 5 style prop he is working on is. when I talked to him he said that the 5 blade currently available is basically a bravo 1 with an extra blade and. I know the max 5 is based of the same casting as the maximums then cut down.

Coreconstruction 01-04-2019 02:56 PM

Not sure, but I am got be getting a set of those also.
sometime in March

Eliminated572 01-13-2019 02:53 PM

I bought a set of the 5 blades. Was not impressed. Had a ton of slip. Even tho they “look” like a P5X, they aren’t anywhere close. This talk of the max 5 clone has me thinking of giving them another shot however

endeavour32 03-21-2019 10:34 PM

So has anyone received any of their props, and tested them out? I bought a new set of Herings over the winter, if they don't work, I'll be looking for more prop options again.

DiamondPerformance 03-23-2019 07:40 AM

I received my props (Max 5 clone) from Cutting Edge. Haven't had a chance to use them because of weather.

BUP 03-23-2019 01:54 PM

And you let me know via however as well ^^^^^ I am awaiting to hear how these props have faired. Thanks TTY soon

Cap'm Kurt 03-27-2019 08:51 PM

The Bravo's are just hard to beat overall on a V hull. I suppose some may want to be similar to so and so, but actulally performing the same is a different story.

The old expression "close only counts in horseshoes" i suppose applies here when it comes to props.

Very nice! That is the way a set of custom props should look. If they run as well as they look you should be in great shape.

Little story,,,,,,,,,,,, Received a set of mucho custom props , fourth time back, from a big namer one Friday afternoon, opened the box and damned near craped in the parking lot. Looked like they had been done by a freshman BOCES kid.

Some props work, some do not. Your's at least look like the man put some serious effort into his work. Love to hear how they run.

Fixed your quote

Ok guys, no more excuses on it's too cold to test out the props. Who has tested theirs? I'm picking my boat up tomorrow night and hoping to do some testing myself over the weekend.

endeavour32 04-23-2019 05:39 PM

Whats the deal on these props. It's been warm now for a good month, has anybody tested them out yet?

Had to know you were from New York with the words mentioning Boces. Cracking me up.
Anyways would you mind telling me whom did your props that looked bad ? Just asking thanks

Yup, BOCES, where local dumb azzes learn to be "xpurts" under the watchful eye of one who could not make it doing it and feels compelled to pass his inability on to the next generation. All government funded might I add.

I would be remiss to be a name dropper, be remiss to mention that after many promises of gain for your dollar based on years of "xpurtness", The program ran in a steady downhill in spite of massive cash infusions by myself. Long, rather short, of the story here is the boat ran it's best with the props out of the box, so much for trust my "xpurtness", it must be something you did to them. I swear that is what I was told.

Ask me once and I likely will be polite and respectful, ask me twice and I might tell you.

boatnt 06-03-2019 10:13 PM

well,anybody try them yet?

endeavour32 06-03-2019 10:16 PM

I ended up having BBlades build me a custom set of Maximus props. I'll be testing them this weekend, and will report back. It would be nice to hear how the cutting edge props work.
