Wtb:johnson or evinrude 250 h.p.
I am looking to buy a Johnson or Evinrude 250 H.P. motor.
V6 only. Ocean Runner or Ocean Pro, with 25 inch shaft. Prefer Carburated models, No V8 models. Would like to find a clean low hour motor to throw on my boat. But will consider one needing work or rebuild. I am located in Fort lauderdale, Florida. Let me know what you have and your contact info. Thanks |

I specialize in those and will keep my eyes open for you. They didn't start building the carb'd 250 V-6's until '98 and then the Evinrudes became Fichts in I think '99 w/the Johnsons continuing on until the death of that side of OMC in about '01 I think.
Be very careful if you find one too as most people (even the dealers) have no clue what they are. I got scammed on one in Miami (of course) that had been rebuilt and a 225 block used which is not the same. I bought a pair of '99's from a large dealer a yr or so ago that also did not know the difference. I was tight on time and trusted him (based on size and reputation) to provide written record of compression tests that they did for me ahead of time. The 250 blocks have bigger exhaust ports and higher compression which again, hardly anyone realizes. So when this guy gave me a receipt showing a 100 lbs of compression across the board of both motors I knew (hoped) he was lying as a real 250 will have 115ish. I gambled based on how clean they were and how few of hrs. Sure enough, got them home and they were all @ 115lbs. One thing to check is the welch (??) plug on the top, port rear of the block. Looks just like a freeze plug in a car motor. If it's a 250 block it will have #'s matching the ones on the clamp bracket. Lastly, they are difficult to find (beyond only being built a couple of yrs) because w/the raised compression levels and no warning from dealers to owners about fuel quality, most of them are long gone by now. A stock one is very strong though. Even with or a bit ahead of a Merc 225 Pro Max. You can read more on my website and I'd be glad to help how ever I can. TwoStrokeOnly.com |
Thanks for the info. I currently have a 225 ocean runner and simply want another 25 hp.
It is my understanding that Johnson made the Ocean Runner V6 250 from 1998 to 2001. I am not sure about Evinrude Ocean Pro? If you know, please provide info. I would like to find a clean running one, but will entertain a non runner that is a good core for a rebuild. Must be a 25 inch shaft. Thanks and let me know what you find! |
Twin i need a different prop i think right now i have a 13 1/4 x 20 on a 90 v4 Evinrude on the back of a 164 sunsprot baja and it seems to want to blow out just before it comes on to plane 1984 any suggestions

I saw that a couple of days ago.
That thing is beautiful. Only problem is that its a 20 inch shaft and I need a 25. I will also take a 30inch and just use the powerhead for my 225 Ocean Runner. Thanks guys! Please keep your eyes open... |
