Phoenix boating
We are looking to move to a warmer climate, Phoenix is on the short list. What kind of boating is there on Lake Pleasant and Lake Powell? I'm coming from Northern Illinois (Chain-O-Lakes) area. What type/brand and size are the popular? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Powell is actually kind of far from Phoenix. Havasu is much closer. Pleasant is just north west of Phoenix. There is Also Bartlett but it is kind of small.
You're going to see all the west coast customs, Eliminator, Hallett, DCB, Schiada, Nordic, Ultra, etc. From 16' to 35'+, a lot of open bow and mid cabins, deck boats, cats, and pontoons. Most Phoenix folks hit Pleasant but go to The River too which is the Colorado River which includes Havasu, Mojave, Mead, the Parker Strip and the lower river. Powell is actually on the Colorado too but mostly in Utah. It's an amazing lake though. Hit up River Dave's Place for more local info. |
Thanks for the input! I love Havasu I have family there! I just don't think the job market is there in Havasu or am I wrong, I'm in sales. So do a lot of people live and work in Phoenix area then weekend in Havasu?

Yes all kinds of stuff on lake pleasant boat wise. My wife and I live about 12 mins from Lake Pleasant now. The popular spot is humbug(aka party cove) quite a few people tie up in that area and its a pretty good party scene when its hot.
Nothing compares to Havasu, however I actually prefer pleasant as its a pretty large lake for Arizona standards and its not congested all the time like Havasu(less ratards). Bartlett is smaller, but completely different landscape and shape. Great Lake for wakeboarding/skiing early in the morning. The boating lifestyle is completely different here in phoenix as homes are not allowed to be built along the shoreline(for now), ie no poker runs, having a personal dock etc. There are however 2 marinas at pleasant and one features Dillion's resturaunt, which has a great menu and spectacular location on the water. Open bow mid cabin boats are popular here due to the heat and style of boating. A cuddy is essentially an oven here in the summer. Might keep that in mind if you are going to shop for a boat once you arrive. |
We live in Scottsdale and go to pleasant most of the time, and head to Havasu a few weekends a year. Hope to get out to Catalina a few times next year.
