Almost Spring! Know what that means?

Time for a new stereo!!!

Last year I revamped the stereo in our boat. It started with 10 Kenwood 6.5's, 2 Kenwood 4-channel amps, 1 Kenwood 10" woofer, and really sounded aweful. From there I added a mono amp, 4 JL Audio 10's, removed the Kenwood 10", swapped the 4 6.5's in the tower for Wet Sounds 6.5's, and added a Wet Sounds WS-420, swapped the batteries for Stinger SP1500D's, and remodeled the port side console. It was much better.

Here are some pics.... These are before I gutted it a couple weeks ago.

This one is what it was like from the factory:

What I changed it to:

Now for the new....

Last year, I had 3 amps that were about 1500W total. It was pretty loud, but always had potential for more...

Tower Speakers:
Changed the light bar to the Wet Sounds 3-Some. That consists of 3 enclosures. 2 enclosures have 1 8" Epoxy Fiberglass cone woofer, and 1 horn loaded compression driver. The center enclosure has 2 8's, and 1 horn. I've got a 6-channel amp powering those. The center enclosure gets 600W, while the 2 outers get 200W each.

In-Boat speakers:
I swapped the 6 Kenwood 6.5's in the boat for 6 Wet Sounds XS-650's. There's a huge difference in quality there. The Kenwoods were junk to start with. I have a Wet Sounds 4-channel amp powering those. 2 bow speakers are on 2 channels, and the 4 cockpit speakers are on the rear 2 channels. Each speaker gets about 125-150W.

Sub's:
The 4 JL 10's are out. Now I'll have 1 12" Wet Sounds XS-XXX under each console in a ported box. Those have an RMS power rating of 1000W, and 2000W peak. I'll have 1 Wet Sounds Syn1 amp powering each of those, so 2 sub amps. Those are under-rated at 1000W mono.

Batteries:
I've already got 2 Stinger SP1500D batteries that shared the duty of powering the boat and the stereo, but this year I'm splitting that up. The 2 existing batteries will power the stereo, while an SP800 will power the boat. Then I added 3 Stinger SBC6A on-board charger/maintainer's. I'll have those wired up so when I get back on the trailer or to the dock, I can just pull a cord to a receptacle and plug it in.

LED's:
I've got a small LED project I'm gonna try to do. I bought a string of underwater pods that have 70 lights in it (2 per puck) and will mount those to the bottom of the swim platform. That's to attract fish when the enemies are swimming behind the boat at night.....

Sub boxes haven't been built yet. I got it powered up a couple nights ago and the midbass is unbelievable. Sounds like there's already a sub in there.

More pics to come soon.

jonyb 03-03-2009 10:45 PM

No, but I may have some new Clarion's in stock. Prolly around the $50-$70 price range. Josh also just removed some MB Quart's from his boat, but they're 5.25's and 1 tweeter doesn't work.

hoghead 03-04-2009 07:13 AM

cool, the clarions would be fine.

Got a little more work done this weekend.... This have to carpet the front of the boxes in black, then when they're in teh boat, cut out some flush panels.

Batteries.... The small one is 900CCA, the other 2 are 1500 each. There are 3 chargers/maintainers for each battery. I've got it all wired to when I get back to the dock or home, all I have to do is open the ballast locker, grab the cord, and plug it in. 1 plug is wired to all 3 chargers.

Is your rub rail in the water yet?? I bet everyone is wondering how you "lowered" Your boat!

jonyb 03-09-2009 03:27 PM

Nope.... the only time my rubrail gets wet is when Rosy is driving.

I mean, wait....

My Craig Powerplay should be here any day now, along with the Jenson Tri-axle speakers, looking forward to getting it all hooked up.

So will you be keeping the Spark'N'Static that's currently in there, or will we be installing that in your automobile?:grinser010:
