i ran the year they closed up after the race , probably 80. Rough as hell the whole race. If i'm not mistaken , i believe hi files bankrupcy after the race and all the prize money checks bounced. Could be wrong, long time ago

I know this is an older post and I just ran across it…… You guys missed 1 boat, it’s a 1995 50’ carbon fiber Cougar cat was “Brooks” (shoes) then “Spirit of Norway”. There were 2 built and only one exists. I’ll try and post original pics and current pics. It didn’t make it to the states till 2007. I’m the proud owner of it now.

I am not aware of anyone building a Class ll cat prior to my Wiggins Teape which came second in the 1974 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes.

There was Fiona Aran's (Lady) Badger IV. But this may not have been built by Cougar. It had OMC outboards and was not successful. I guess this was built between Black Panther and Hi-Mac. I started in Class lll in 1971 in a 21' monohull Avenger and was blown away by the cats. Thereafter, all Cougars!
