Apache vs.Cigarette - Which one is better: Apache 41...or Cigarette Tiger TS/Top Gun?
Which on is "better" - today in 2003...:
Apache 41 with say 2x850hp / 2x900hp (1988-1991)
or
Cigarette Tiger TS (Twin Step) with say 2x650-750hp (2003)
or
Top Gun TS (Twin Step 2001-2003).

I think a conventional bottom Tiger with 2/900hp would be the boat of choice today as opposed to the OLDER model Apaches. Haven't seen or heard of an actual new model 41-42 Apache, so I can't make any opinions comparing it.

I agree with your choice Tiger conventional bottom vs. Tiger TS.
Scott V. Smith (head of quality control at Cigarette untill recently - he tested over 1.000 Cigarettes) said: The steps on the Cigarette Tiger TS are too big. The conventional bottom is better.
(The steps on the Top Gun TS in contrast are fine and they work).
Plus you have a superior ride. The steps (I know most seem to love them) ...but in really rough water or with any waves from the side the ride gets uncomfortable ...the faster the worse.
Still somehow ...though the Apache 41s design is 17 years old I like it more than the Tiger. Perhaps I'm too nostalgic?
Once you get onto the Apache 41 - the helm, the cabin, many details - everything looks "old" today. The cabin is extremly dated, early 80s - "fit for Donald Trump" (only the gold is missing).
But still ...what a boat. And the performance is still extremly good. Think about it: It is 17 years old and the pure hull is still up to date. I personally think the design is better than the Tiger - only too heavy by todays standard.

Tough question. The conventional Tiger with big power runs great. When I rode in a 42 TS it just bounced its ass off. I thought it was due to having small power (575's) in a big boat, but the ones with bigger power aren't any better. The steps ARE too big, needs some more R&D. The Top Gun is the ultimate.
The old Apache 41's rock. Truly a great design. Still, very heavy making BIG power necessary to run fast. Too bad the paint was so limited when they were being built.
The Top Gun TS handles excellent with any power. It's the most impressive innovation to already the most popular performance boat ever. Two thumbs up for the 38.
