Default HELP I think I bent it!!

OK We had a great day boating today and it was time to put it on the trailer, Someone forgot to bring in the back rope and it wrapped it around the Port side out drive/ propeller, (Bravo1) Felt a slight vibration, Port motor died and could not get it started. Dropped the trailer in deeper and got the boat loaded.

Pulled the boat out of the ramp and noticed the rope around the port drive. Now the prop/output shaft I believe is bent, when you turn the shaft it has a tight spot in it.

Do I need ant special tools to pull the out drive form the boat ?
I don't think so, but this is the first time pulling a drive,
is there any special procedures I need to know to get it off?

Also noticed a clunking earlier in the day on the starboard side when I put it into drive. The Port side is very quiet when I put it into drive. Shoul I pull both drive s and switch them around , I heard this should be done every 100 hours.

I may bring the drive to My dealer for inspect & repair, or I may do it myself, I own a repair/ machine shop so tools are not a problem. Any idea on cost for parts, shaft, bearings? ?

I am very good mechanic, just never pulled a set of drives.
This is some of the Compressors/ gearboxes I work on

if bravo's, just take off the 6 nuts on the drive, pull the drive out till you can reach wire and take it off the slot in the drive. As far as your clunking, I think you only have to adjust the wire that engage the gears of drive. It is usually on the engine.

If the prop shaft has any binding - ya bent it. Get yourself a factory service manual first off - pulling the bearing carrier and the prop shaft are not a big deal - but you'll definately need an inch pound torque wrench to re-set the bearing load when installing the carrier. It's a fairly simple process if you want to invest in the tools needed to remove the carrier nut, pre-load the vertical shaft, and the spline adapter needed to use turn the prop shaft with the torque wrench.

Sorry about your troubles.

WOW, You must have strong ropes! I've wrapped my anchor chain, crab pots, etc. around my prop and never bent the shaft.

When I first checked it, I had just pulled it out of the water and it had a slight tight spot when I rotated the shaft.

I checked it today in the garage and it turns free and easy??

Now where do I go

Tools are not a problem, What I do not have I will buy.

You can never have enough tools!

I doubt you bent the propshaft. If you did oil should leak out the prop shaft seal. If no gear lube puddle, run it.

Fire it up - put it in gear - stand behind the boat and look at the center of the shaft - it's pretty darn obvious!!

Put a micrometer on your drive and check tolerance on your prop shaft while you are rotating it by hand. I believe the tolerance is 0.007in.

I have the manual here somewhere, I will look it up for you if you need it.
