Default pre 1990 bravo drives

It is my understanding that pre 1990 bravo drives do not have the remote fluid reservoir. Does the remote reservoir simply add a convenient way of checking or adding to your fluid level or does the additional fluid help in some other way? How do you add fluid to one of these style bravos? I assume from the bottom like when you refill after changing?

If I remember correctly, the remote reservoir is not something you can add because the drive and transom assembly are different.

Thanks for any input.

The additional fluid helps by flooding the top cap with oil. The oil is still added the same way-pumped in through the lower drain until it comes out the upper.

I've been told you can not add the reservoir, but some time ago there was alot of talk on the board about a kit to do this. Talk to Paul Kermis of Simrek. He was the one behind the kit.

Oh, there is another benefit. With the drive hot and no reservoir, when it cools a vacuum will be formed which could suck water past the seals. The reservoir helps to vent the drive, thus eliminating the vacuum.

My '89 SeaRay has the reservoir but my '89 Fountain does not. The SeaRay was also made before the Fountain.

I would also like to add the Kit to the Fountain.

I added the kits to my 88's. They are not listed for Bravos but have worked fine for 3 years. I might still have the part numbers around. And yes, I talked to Paul Kermis at Simrek before I did mine. I can send you pics if you email me your email address. [email protected]
