Default Broken Cavitation Plate

I hit a piece of wood last weekend and broke about a 4" piece off both the upper and lower cavitation plate at the front port side. The boat seemed to handle and plane like normal. I know I could weld new pieces in there and paint the drives but I was wondering if I could grind them on an angle and do the same on the starboard side, kind of making the cav plates come to a point in the front?? Think it would have any effect on handling or performance?

I think it will have an effect on handling. Especially when cornering and when comming out of the hole. I hooked a rock and it broke my cav plate and skeg. Luckely the drive shower held the broken piece of the cav plate and I welded it back on the next day.
