Are you sure your 24's haven't been re-pitched?
bajalion,
Nope, stock props. But remember, I'm pushing 50 or so more hp than the 496s.

Sorry for butting in here guys (always some lively banter over here in the Baja Forum ) but can someone tell me why a 342 with HO's needs to prop down from B26's and a PQ340 with same power needs to prop up from labbed B28's? I will be trying out a pair of labbed 30's this weekend.

That's a big difference in props.....I don't get it.

I'm not really familar with PQ, but Baja uses a more conservative X dimension (less trim angle), with no steps (more hull to push). I believe the PQ340 is 2 step (?). Also, the 340 weighs in at 8200 vs 7500 for the PQ.

My boat, for example, weighs 7500, and with HP500s, I'm running 24 B1s.

My .02

OK, 72-73MPH might be stretching it a bit. Another 500RPM's hopefully will get me another 2-3MPH to get me over 70. I am pushing alot of extra weight with the options that are on the boat.
Prochargers will be coming soon!

Correct me if I'm wrong,
but I believe to PQ 340
has a notched transom,
( I know the 380 does)
this usually means elevated
drive heights.
My buddy's 33 Outlaw has
boxes on it ( boxes: same effect as
a notched transom) he runs 30p
props, my 29, no boxes, runs 30p
props, 4 more feet of boat,
A friend of ours has a 33' Donzi
step hull boat 500 efi's, no notched
transom, 28p props.
Notched transoms also shorten the
running surface also.
So my guess is the notched transom
is the major difference

Thanks guys, that makes some sense. (The PQ has twin steps and notched transom.) But look at the two 33 Outlaws above. One runnin' B24's and the other runnin' B30's. Wow! Is that due entirely to the boxes or does that boat have different power?

Macklin,
My buddy's 33 with the
boxes is running labbed
30p bravo's, engines are
carbed HP500's.
From what I've experienced,
for example, if you run a 23p
non labbed prop, you are able
to run a 25p labbed prop.
From what I've read, I don't
think Bajadude's 24's are labbed.
So, if the both were the running
either labbed or non labbed, there
probably would only be a 1 size difference,
that's where the boxes come in to play.
just my .02

Bajaforce, your RPM's will pick up some when your engine's loosen up some more, when you hit about 20 to 25 hours you will pick up some more speed, try the 24's , you might have good luck with your props getting a little work done on them

Mark,
Your right, I should pick up another 100-200RPM's when the engines loosen up but by then I will be dealing with 90 degrees and 90% humidity and loose what I gain. It was only 70 with 30% humidity the weekend that I had it out for the first time.
I picked up the 24 labbed race props from my dealer and I hope to give them a try in the next couple of days.
