There was a racing version also built at the time I think. Had a shorty gear case. That would be awesome also
the 150XS was a short shaft (15 inch transom) with a low water pickup.
the black max were V6 175Hp in 76

The smaller HP will still b fater because of the X dimension on this boat.

It has a 175 on it right now, but it sits so far down in the water, that the drag slows it down.

Wasn't there something called a Y2X or similar. I thought I saw a thread on one earlier this year when there was on on ebay??

Still looking. I would prefer the race version with the shorty drive.

Was it called a T2X? I saw one on ebay about a year ago and am still kicking myself for not buying it.

Jeff, A T2X is a very expensive motor if it can be found. Most of the guys who have them will not let them go. Less desireable but also rare is a 150XS. I have a freshwater 150XS from Minnesota. I have a 1988 Hydrostream Viper that has never been rigged or in the water and I was going to use this motor on it but do not have the time to restore the motor to new. I have just started construction on a home and am not going to have time to do this year. I also don't have a garage right now, its a storage bin. Here is a descrition of the motor
1977 Mercury 150XS 15". Serial numbers match on block and midsection. My mechanic and I put it on a stand and did a compression test and attempted to run it. All cylinders were 125lbs with exception of #3 which was 115lb. If I keep it I would have it rebuilt. The distributor cap has a crack in it and needs to be replaced. I have one but did not install yet. The interior electrical harness wiring should be replaced as it was a common problem with Mercs of this era for the wire covering to dry out and crack. The carbs should also be rebuilt. The motor turned over fine but would not start due to the distributor. The midsection is the 15" that came with the motor. The trim hoses will need to be replaced as the rubber coating on them also was commen to dry out and crack. The lower has a piece missing in the skeg. I do not have the external harness or controls but they are easy enough to find. The cowl is the original louvered cowl, a couple of the screens inside have tears. I was going to make my wife sew them I have a set of NOS original decals that I recently purchased off ebay for $265 The entire exterior of the motor should/needs to be stripped and repainted. In a good economy a mint 150XS would sell for $6000-$7000. I have it on ebay for a buy it now/ best offer (less decals) for $2400 but have had no solid offers. If you are interested I can email you pics. I am located on Long Island in New York. Thanks Mike

A twister inline 6 merc sold on Ebay last month I think for$ 6 ,000 and a short shaft inline 6 maybe a BP was high bid at 3600 reserve not met last week, both motors were talked about on Scream and Fly under ebay listings,What used to be thought of as useless or outdated when the V-6 came out is now a collectors item and very expensive,A merc xs 150 would be period if you can find one . good Luck, ( you could cut down the mid of the motor you have to look and run better )
