Default electrical issues on 2000 baja help!!!!!!

ok so i think i have a ground issue if my radio is on and i try and raise my hatch it cuts the radio out it doesnt do it with any of my other switches etc. its when you use the radio accessory switch and the hatch switch my volt gauge drops to 10v is there a main grounding block or is all tied into to the motor block???

I had same problem with my 25 ol.
Ran separate power and ground for radio and it still had noise. Ended up running a separate ground to the accessory (remote on) switch. All accessory swirptches were jumping grounds to each other. Check the power/ ground on the hatch and and at switch, or run separate to aux radio battery.

Mine used to do the same thing, the wiring is too small. You are probably drawing power from the main harness at the dash (which is like 12 awg I think), and then probably 10 or 12 awg back to the hatch actuator. That is causing the voltage drop and the radio to cut out, it cuts out due to the high current draw of the hatch actuator and when the voltage drops below a certain point.

Do a search for hatch relays, that will solve your problem.

If you really want to solve it, run a separate +12/GND to bus bars in your dash, and re-wire all of your switches to feed from the +12V bus bar, and run all your grounds to the ground bus bar. Then all the harness +12V does is feed the starter solenoid and ignition, everything else is separate.

That's what I did, it works great. I ran a separate 2 awg for power and ground to my dash, very minor drop voltage drop when I run my hatch. 10 awg from the switch to the actuator, eventually I'll get around to doing the relays. Only other thing I need to fix is I only ran 10 awg to my trim pumps, I need to bump those runs up to 6 awg.

You can see the +12V bus bar in this post:

Use a hatch relay as said above. It should fix the issue. Otherwise, just don't lift the hatch with the stereo on

I guess the small gauge wiring would have an effect on the sound system I've had the problem since I bought the boat but it already had a subwoofer and amplifier installed I guess that explains it lol thanks for the replies
