Skeg Repair? XR Sportmaster -Satin finish
I am looking for someone that can repair or replace an XR Sportmaster skeg (satin finish) the damage is to the center of the leading edge. I am missing a chunk about 6-7 inches by 2 inches deep. Can I get some recommendations on who to use? Has anyone had a satin finish skeg repaired and been happy with the quality of the results??? I am in Wilmington, North Carolina. I will deliver or ship.
Thanks, Rob (910)524-5438

I hit a sumerged tree with my starboard sportmaster, it knocked out a 1/2 oval shape in the skeg about 8". Just like the shape of the log. Took drive apart to see if any damage, none thanks to Teague torsional shaft. Took housing to a buddy of mine who welds alum. He cut the oval out to a rectangular shape and traced the shape to a similar peace of alum. and cut it out and welded it in. A little grinding, good as new. I also stuck a wet towel in the drive housing when he was welding it to make sure the housing was not over heated and distorted. Any welding shop or person should be able to handle it that can weld alum. I live in VA and my friends name is Jonny 540-659-3715 Also you can ship it to him and he can take it apart. You can see were he welded it , dissimilar colors, but who cares. Good luck, Gary

Thanks for the info,
Boatrtr8987: You would think that " Any welding shop or person should be able to handle it that can weld alum." (Boater8987 Quote) would be true but, I did take it to a local marine repair shop and you would not believe the P.O.S. job they did on it....
