1990 Fountain 38 Fever scratched smoked lexan windshield
The wrap around smoked lexan windshield on my boat is pretty scratched up. Any recomendations on a fix or will I have to buy another one? Is there a way to polish the lexan or buff the scratches out?

Once they get crazed there is noway of fixing them. If that boat is a 90 then the windshield will be toast. We've been making Fountain windshields for local customers since we can fit them to the boat. It's a simple one to make if you have the right equipment, namely a plastic bender, so you should be able to find a local commercial plastic fabricator to build one.

If not crazed as Lofy said, you can buff out. I use Mequire's seal and reseal, I believe now it is called show car glaze, use a low speed buffer with a wool pad, same speed as you would use to buff out paint. It will take some time, just have to be patient, be careful not to stay on one area too long so you do not heat up the plastic. I just did my cabin door on my 96 boat, smoke color lexan, had some pretty deep scratches, came out like new. I have been doing it this way for 30 years on anything plastic, good luck.

another alternative is having it painted properly. I have ordered a new white race fairing from fountain about 6 weeks ago, it arrived two days ago with (2) Forklift forks throught the container and was refused by my installer. I was having Mitcher T repaint my entire boat after fairing install this weekend anyway, so I asked him if the lexan can be painted. He stated that it is not really designed to be painted, but properly prepped and sprayed, you can make it look good. It may require re-doing every couple years (maybe?) but I am doing it, and I found pics of other fountains with this done (see attached)

Oh I forgot to mention....the cost of the new white race fairing from fountain (the only place I found to get a properly made one) is $3,500 includes shipping. I suppose the lexan is close to the same cost.

Just make sure you find a matching paint to the Gel and paint the underside and all the hardware.
