depth gage
hi everyone i own a 98 38 fever looks like my sending unit for the depth gage is mounted under the step in the cabin. When im in nowake zone it works great but on plane it dosent . why was it placed there?

Join the club. Mine's the same way. On a plane it will read intermittently, but not at high speeds. I stay in channels or use my GPS charts. I really only need the DS when idling in unfamilar places.

me thinks that due to the aeration of a stepped hull, its not going to work good on a plane..the transducer needs to shoot thru water, air has a different density and will mess it up. it was probbly placed whee it was because it was a 'convient' spot. another thing to remeber is that it erads under the boat..if your on a plane and moving pretty good, by the time it reads alarmingly shallow, you have already hit the sand bar anyways

Mine does the same. Not something I would rely on too much. Although the lake I boat on doesnt hold any suprises except a tree here or there near the shore. If you can see the bottom, go deeper.
