Hi guys the reason I put the same tread in all three forums,
was that I was intresting to have comments from Fountains,Donzi and Formula owners. the Donzi guys are very open minded and their comments are very objective, they
are very entusiastic of their own boats, but also gives a lot of posetiv feedback both of Formula and Fountain. The Formula guys are very proud of the quality and preformance of thier boats. They also admit that Formula are not the fastet boats on the planet. Then you Fountain guys, very entuisiastic, almost like a religious movement, when you talk about your
Fountainboats. Maybe not so strange when the priest is Reggie Fountain who in my opinion do not make the coolest,
nicest, and best quality boats. But when it comes to speed it looks like his boats are in a different league then the others-
The Active Thunder I do not know anything about,so no comments from the guy who started this thread.
I bought my self a new boat yesterday a 1988 Formula 242 SS
very good condition for its years and with a 454 330 hp engine. I got a very good price feels like a good deal.

I'll be the 1st to say the rigging on Fountain has a long way to go. Under the dash and the wiring under the gunwalls looks terrible. Maybe since that is out of sight and really is nothing more than bragging rights, Fountain doesn't see fit to spend more time ($$$) in those areas? Just guessing.
You're right, AT are nice. Never said otherwise.

The NEW 35 lightning is extremely efficient with the staggered engine design. 525's = 100 plus mph!!
By the way all you guys saying that the 35 Fountain is really a 31 and the 42 is really a 39 I have to disgaree.
If you REALLY watch a V-bottom run there is no way it is using the entire length anyway!!
The Fountains run SO FLAT there is actually a MORE glass in the water. More than most!
And you Donzi guys! Last year in a poker run on Lake Michigan I smoked a Donzi 38 ZR Competition through 6 footers in my 42 Fountain. This guy was telling me before the run that his boat ran 98 mph with 575's and he was gonna walk my dog!! I pulled him right out of the gate! I was so far in front of this clown that I could not even see him after 3 miles.
At the awards dinner I saw him and he gave me every reason in the world why he could not keep up.
He actually could NOT believe my 42 only had twin staggered 525 efis. He actually made me show him!!
So if the Donzi ZR Comp is and ACTUAL 38 why was he so far behind my little 42/39??
My answer is BOTTOM DESIGN BABY!!!
I have owned 5 NEW Fountains and each one is better than the one before it. Fountain Powerboats is the technology leader in bottom design. HANDS DOWN!!
I wish these guys would stay off the Fountain Forum if they only come here to bash the BEST POWERBOATS ON THE PLANET!!!!!

congrats....my uncle has a mid 80's 242 with twin 350/260's and has put like 1300 hrs on it over the years, just some motor work when needed. The boat has always performed well in the chop and runs 58mph.Enjoy...
