Default Test result Formula,Fountain,Donzi why?

Hi

After reading several different articles in magazines and
at the internet. I have following question: How come that
the Formula 353 Fastech with twin 500 efis has top speed
of 74,4 mph. The Fountain 35 lightning with twin 525 efis do
101 mph. The Donzi 38ZR with twin 525 efis do 91 mph.???
The Formula and Fountain has aprox the same weight 8600
The Donzi weight is 9500. Why this enormous speed difference?? I know that the Formula has alltoghter 50 hp
less than the two other boats.

Any comments?

The Formula bottoms need work in my opinion. All the edges are very rounded and possibly step design and placment is not optimumplus the Fountain rides on a vee pad keel and the Formula has no lift in the rear so the boat run wet thus more hull drag. Also balance of the boat has a lot to do with it.

The Donzi 38 and Fountain 35 are very different sized boats and that is not a fair comparison. The Donzi 38 is much larger than the 35 Fountain.

The Formula 353 does not measure 35' feet either. When I tech for APBA the 35 Fountain and Formula hull surface measured out with in inches.

Hi folks I am not saying that this is correct, but the formula test is from Boattest.com the Fountain and Donzi test are from
Powerboatmagazin. I was wrong by the HP on the 500efi
it is 475 and not 500 so the difference is 100 hp thats explains
some of the speed diference, but still it is a hugh diff. *S*

The difference is the staggered engine setup in the new Fountain's, the side by side setup is 88-90 mph boat with 525's.

Fountain is simply a far, far better designed boat.

Reggie is a scientist: Fountain actually tests every single boat they build, and they keep track of what works, and what does not.

Sure, a few low production companies may also run every boat they build, but Fountain builds about half of all the world's high performance offshore boats, and they test every one, so no other company has anywhere near the experience and data on what actually works.

Those latest Fountain 35's are amazing highly tuned boats!

One, the 525EFIs are more like 540-550HP engines, not 525.

The Fountain 35 does have a faster bottom. The Formula 353 never had a lot of speed developed into it from its inception. The Fountain really is a 32' boat, give or take, once you subtract the platform and the beak. And I believe the Fountain 35' you refer to is also the ICBM/staggered version which is also a tweak faster than a side/side model. The Formula 353 is a bigger, nice optioned boat, which will also cost you speed.

The 38 Donzi ZR is a totally different ballgame. Its basically their original raceboat tricked out into a pleasure package.

For some comparisons:
The 33 Active Thunder will do 92mph with 525EFIs on Bravo props.
The 37 Active Thunder will do 90.5 mph with custom props.
