Here we go again.........Looks like there will be no offshore race in Ft. Myers this year. Was told that the beach business owners won't pony up any $$$$$$ to help sponsor the event. That is a huge bummer for me as well as the other offshore race fans. Its hard to believe that no one is making money off this race when you see the beaches packed with people, and 1 1/2 hour traffic jams to get on/off the beach. No wonder poker runs are becoming more popular. Thank god for our fun runs......they help feed my need to hear big v-8s running side by side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bummer....was looking forward to it. I've lived here 5 years now and somehow Ft Myers Beach seems to survive in spite of the local governments attitude towards visitors and tourism. Personally, after a $50 parking ticket 4 years ago for being 10 minutes over, I haven't been back. Take my business where its appreciated. They can't charge me for anchoring offshore.

No $hit, John... here's the view from the pier at last year's race. Nobody is gonna tell me that many people don't drop some serious coin during the course of a day at the beach. Geez, maybe they don't need the money.

That said, I'm with Skip- major bummer- after my good experience with the camera at last year's race I was really looking forward to this one. Oh well... maybe we should have a fun run rally right in front of Lani Kai and race up and down the beach.

Missed last years, & was looking forward to this years.
My schedule looks like I would be here for a Fun Run on that weekend. I am up for a little fun out in front of the Lani Kai.
If nothing else, we could anchor up, listen to the band, and look at the women. Drinks and Jello shots optional.

It is a damn shame because Ft. Myers has been an offshore race site going way back. We went through this b.s. a couple of years ago right after the A.P.B.A./O.S.S. split. They could not find a major sponsor for the race. Maybe we need to road trip to Sarasota............

That would be too cool! According to the O.S.S. section, it looks like there are a few racers that want to be in Ft. Myers as much as we want them there.
