I am in the same position that you are in. 192c has the blue charts and accept chips for more detail areas. I was also told that there is less glare with the 192C.

Mark I was trying to figure out if you needed the blue charts on the 192c. The way I read it sounds like they are already loaded in it. Which means I would have to spend 149 + 109. to do the same thing with the 182c. Or did I misunderstand what they were saying.

The 192C has the blue charts for coastal areas. Still need them if you do inland boating. The 182, 172 and 276 have basemaps only which are not very detailed.

I have been looking for a while, was going to go with Garmin but saw this thread http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=100264
and looked into alternatives, went with the Navman 5500, less than $550 to my door and I've got the $175 rebate coming back to me so for $375 I couldn't find anything comparable, I ordered it on monday morning and recieved it this afternoon(Wednesday). Will be installing it this weekend.I got mine from www.brokenlegdave.com
Rebate is good til June 30th so don't wait too long.

Hi Mark,

The Garmin's are nice, but so are the Navman units. I purchased the NavMan 5500 almost 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. The Navman screen is brighter and easier to read in the sun. Navman was purchased up by Brunswick about a year ago.

Search the internet and find your best price. Print the screen and take it into a BoatUS store, they'll match the price.

I have a 276C, so I'll third that! It's a very nice unit for both car and boat. It works great for us for dual use. However, if I wanted just a boat permanent mount unit, I'd consider going larger as it can be a little hard to navigate at high speed with the smaller sized screen. But for the overall price it is a fair tradeoff IMO.

I had the 182C and bought the 192C.
After using both, the only real differences are:
the 192C has a MUCH bright screen. The 182C was tough to see in sunlight.
The 192C has Blue charts built in for coastal areas.
Other than that, they are about identical.
I recommend the 192C - just because you CAN see it in sunlight.

I have the 182C, and love it!!!!! Can see it in any position and and has saved me once or twice from shallow water. Becareful the 176C & 192C have a different screen than the 182C look similar but in the open sunlight you cannot see them unless you are directly behind the unit, talked with Garmin and the 182C has a special screen that can be seen from any spot, in any condition, there was a term but way over my head, just know it works!!!!!!

Do you know anything about updateing the info on the 192c. It says that you do not need a PC, so does that mean you have to purchase something when there is an update available. The 182 comes with a cable to hook to your computor so that you can update it.

I just recently purchased the Humminbird 947c
It's a GPS, Chartplotter and Fishfinder in 3D. It also has a water temperature sensor, barometric pressure sensor, and the ability to plug in just about any electronic device you own.
I don't do much fishing, but the 3D Sonar alone is awesone. Ever want to go find a sunken ship... well this thing is supposed to really pick them out. I will be doing some ship searching this weekend to verify. $1600
