GPS should suffice. You can get one for less than $100. If your boat runs 10 mph than it ever did with no changes, and you can't repeat.......You got the "blip". It's easy enough to double check. Try to back up your magic #. I have only blipped once in 2 years.......This is of course for bragging......official record runs are something else......

The standard seems to be GPS, for most folks.

There are places on the Detroit River that have a 7 m.p.h. current. I'm sure I could take a run downriver and click 92 m.p.h. on my GPS! :D

Kind of like the bay here. It's fairly shallow, so when the tide's changing rapidly, the water can be flowing a good 2-3mph.....I get differences of up to 6 mph between going north or south sometimes.

Back in the days of the liquid speedo there's no question these weren't accurate speedometers. Radar was about the only way to test your boats top speed which is difficult to do.

Now days with the GPS speedo's and mapping units there should be no debate over what boats run, right? Well, now I see a few folks saying they don't trust GPS speeds either.

So, what does it take to prove to the skeptics what a boat is capable of? I think most disagree with GPS just because they enjoy arguing, but some truly believe that these aren't telling the truth either.

What do you think is the most accurate way to find out a boats top speed?

Radar????

Remember Shootout 2004, Saturday,
Wasn't it 77 mph or something ?,
in front of God and like 8 million people  .

( I'm just f'ing with you......you were still 3
faster than me :D )

Sunday was a redeemer though.

Back to seriousness.

My GPS speedo and hand held are with 1 mph,
thats good enough for me.

Good call on the wind. I dont deal with alot of current, but plenty of wind!

I have seen different methods here:

-Sit at the end of a bar and say you go 95 in 6' waves.

-Show up without your boat and say some guy you know (that is not there either) is faster than anyone else....who actually showed up with their rigs.

Or the only respectable way...

-Show up with your rig and run it with the others all in the same waters till it makes it up front or blows up.

:D:D:D
