Typical of Yamaha outboards I doubt this will put out a true 350hp...we'll see though. Brain you know I LOVE my Verado's but if you are after a performance CC I would put on the Merc 300xs. They are super quiet, burn less oil than you can imagine and get better fuel mileage than the 275 Verado's from what I've read. Yamaha makes great outboards but they are not performance orientated.

Brian, keep us in the loop on the build. I will be/ am in the market for a 36-38 CC sport boat. It will be a hard sale for you. I already have a 23 Concept with a 225 Optimax and we love it. Looking to replace my Black Thunder in the near future. Will you use a bracket? Any steps? The new wellcraft CC have some nice interior features. Joe Murray

Oh yeah those HDPI Yammies are bullet proof..yeah right! Especially that 300hp debacle! there 200 and 250 4 strokes are very nice but nowhere near a performance type of outboard.

Mike ... what are you hearing from guys down there on the 300's ??? My Concept has been pretty good with those 3 except for a nuetral safety switch on one after 3 seasons ..... but I have a problem that just popped up on my 300 on the Spectre ..... will only go to 4000 rpm for some reason !?!??!

LEOPAJM, are you talking about the Yammie HPDI 300's? If so everything from blown powerheads, to fowling spark plugs, eats lots of oil and gas and other gremlins. This is from guys at the marina, my mechanic and locals. Have you read about all the issues with these motors on the florida fishing forum and thehulltruth.com? There are boat dealers down here that will not even take these in on trade or they will nock down the price by a lot for a boat that has the Yamaha300's.

The Merc 300xs just came out and so far I have not heard anything negitive and the few that have been on boats at my dealer have been fine so far. I hear the Merc 300xs semmes to get better fuel milegae than the Verado 275's. I would love to see a real test though.

Yes, 300HPDI , I have had good luck with the first 3 ... this fourth one seems to be a little finicky ? The plugs looked like crap when I pulled them , matter a fact , thats what it acted like ... fouled plugs ... but changed them , and that wasn't the answer ... we'll see ? This one doesn't get run hard all the time like the 3 on the Concept .... lots of idling , and stops and starts , pulling tubes , swimming with the kids ect ..... Which is definately not what these big 2 strokes like .... Thanks for the info ..... I'll check those websites out ?!??!!?
