I still say screw the outboard, get a pair of100~150 hp jetski or smowmobile motors, and make little surface drives for it

Olli, my very sophisticated (lol) web research has both the Yamaha and Tohatsu within 4lbs of each other. You have me worried now.

Phragle, I love your idea, I just wish I had someone to do it for me as it is past my level of expertise and I have nowhere enough time.

I do have a 20 inch Merc 2.5 sitting in the garage that I was thinking would be lots of fun. Not sure if it will float with so much weight on the back. As Blondie says .... dreaming is free.

I use a portable plastic tank 3-6 gallons depending on range requirements (the less weight the better and move it forward to help plane, aft for faster top speed).
I have no battery (no trim/tilt) but would suggest you experiment with location, since weight and balance will be very critical due to the extra weight of your boat fully rigged versus mine. Expect the aft rubrail and stern deck to hull joint to be at water level or below with an empty boat and significantly submerged with a driver and passenger aboard.
The transom might need reinforcement to handle the extra power. What HP is it rated for by the mfg?
A trimmable motor should make for a better performing boat.

Good Luck with your project and let me know how it turns out and if I can be of any further help.

Your Cougar Cub should do about 30 mph with a 25hp, so prop accordingly.
The Cub was designed for a 15" motor, be careful with a 20" it will be more prone to flipping.
I have posted info on other sites so you might want to do a search for more info on my Cub.
