Default Need some help quick: lower unit stuck in gear!!

Well, I put the drive on Friday and finally got around to putting it into gear in the trailer. Doesn't come out of gear. Which means I missed getting the end of the shift cable into the "thing" in the drive. Is there a trick? Put the throttle/shifter all the way to forward? Reverse? Neutral??? And today I haven't got anyone here to help me with this. That drive is heavy!!!

Mike

Mike there is a trick. Take the drive off and pull on the shift cable clamp out of the drive as far as it will go. Then get in the boat and move the shifter untill the cable from the boat sticks out as far as it will go. When pushing on the drive get it close then manually by hand close the clasp around the cable. Push the rest of the way. If it binds either turn the propshaft so the drive can shift or have someone in the boat move the shifter to take up some of the cable.

You really need two people. I tried it alone and brke stuff on the boat and injured myself.

Good luck,

Ron

Thanks Ron. Guess I better make a few calls and get some help then. I have had this drive off several times and never had this problem when putting it back on. I tried today to get it without taking the drive back off, but I can't get it.

Hope I didn't break the shift dog lever already. That would be REALLY bad as I am heading to LOTO on Wed.

you dont have to take it all the way off. just loosen the 6 nuts all the way and back it out until you can see the shift linkage and hook it up again and be sure to close the clasp. If anything in the shift linkage is damaged let me know, I have spares.
