Might be wrong place.....but....

I have been well advised by the "seasoned guru" that I bought my new power from that I need bigger oil coolers.

Being blown 540 Merlins and his experience.....I have no reason to doubt....

However.....I have spent the last two hours browsing the net and came up with very little in the terms of the "next level" in oil coolers. I saw some stuff from cp....but nothing that made me say ok.

Whaddah u guys use?

have you run the cooler and they're not cooling enough ?
size are the current ones'.

plus how and where are they plumbed ?

i had to put in oil thermostats to make temp, doesn't take much to cool the oil.

the more power you make the hotter the oil gets,no getting around that fact,a cooler for a hp500 will not properly cool a sc1000.if your oil temp starts to go above 225,you need a larger cooler,plain&simple.

Young Performance

I use quite a few coolers from CP. They are some nice, quality pieces. They rate their coolers in terms of how much HP they will handle. It's not dead on, but it is a good rule of thumb. I'm a big believer in using a pretty large oil cooler and thermostat. As long as you have an oil thermostat, you almost can't put a cooler that is to large.....almost.

What cooler do you have now? How much power? Do you have a thermostat?

540 Merlins, all roller, twin 850 dp's atop b&m 250's, Merlin heads, 6psi and Gil exhaust....

659 and 645....

I have yet to install and run. I have been warned that the stock cooler on my 420-454's will not do the job. I was thinking to run a ram air onto an intercooler with a fan like I do with my pre-runner, but then I was told that the viscosity will not allow the oil to flow freely through the core. Just another example of me trying to reinvent the wheel.

So.....really wondering what I can do to keep temps down....and I'm not a hot dawg....mostly 45/50 cruise....and the occasional air out

250 blower is pretty small for a 540. Im sure its overdriven a ton to make 6 psi.

I'd be running a large cooler with a oil thermostat like Eddie Said. No need for reinventing the wheel here. Engine upgrades are more fun when you can throttle down and not burn things up from not having the right parts to go along with it.
