Then I think a wire from the push start button tied into the wire at the Safty neutral switch that go's to the starter should work. Tie it in an leave everything the same. But just thinking out loud. But I do think this would work. Artie

We can always just change your neutral rev limiter for you.... Or turn the gear indicator code off allowing full power.

I believe would be the answer to all my problems, would they still be Merc smartcraft compatible since I have no analog gauges on the boat?

Sounds like a fun project and very doable. The SCL (525EFI) guys have been doing 120+ for years and I can't think of one that needed a crash box to do it. I personally don't remember too many transmission failures knocking them off the course.

Out of curiosity, what is the HP lose between a crash box and shiftable trans? Is it that significant to put up with the hassle?
