I am  why were the carbs in a box ???

ragtop409 10-06-2002 11:56 PM

super charger would be my guess;)

Pure Energy 10-07-2002 06:06 PM

Yes they are supercharged. sorry.

H2Xmark 10-07-2002 06:21 PM

Hey Ken, glad to hear it was something simple this time, I know that boat has given you some tough times in the past:D

Pure Energy 10-07-2002 07:05 PM

H2X, yeah, it has been a tough season. Now the boat is running great! Just in time to put her away for the winter:mad:

tomcat 10-07-2002 08:39 PM

Now I'm curious. What kind of supercharged setup?

Pure Energy 10-08-2002 05:33 AM

Tomcat, they are prochargers. Somehow the vacuum line cap came loose, the one at the rear, bottom of the carb. It must have bounced around and followed the air flow and ended up where it did.

Turbojack 10-08-2002 05:52 AM

Tomcat- In all of your flow testing have you done any testing with & without flame arrestors?

Ken- did you try your system with the flame arrrestor & did you see a difference in performance? Did motor backfire & that blow the vacuum cap off?

tomcat 10-08-2002 08:14 AM

Turbojack

When I did my flow testing in the spring the results @ 28" H2O were as follows:

Carb - 985 CFM

Carb with small flame arrester - 860 CFM

Carb with flame arrester inside
carb box, tubing and intercooler - 594 CFM

The flame arrester was only 6" dia and 3" tall because that's what fit inside the box. I understand that the flame arrester is used because it helps settle down the turbulence. eg. 1000 CFM inside a 3.5" dia tube is going 170 mph. I don't think carbs meter fuel properly under these conditions.

Ken

What Procharger system do you have, what size intercooler?

Turbojack 10-08-2002 08:27 AM

TC- I guess that this would be a good reason for EFI
