95mph sounds like a stretch but it could be possible if the boat is really light, totally dialed, and operated under ideal conditions.
We're running a '98 with slightly modified 575SC's getting 600-650hp (not dyno'd). We run it light and GPS'd @ 92 last summer. Maximum performance has not been reached yet, so we think that 95 is possible with some minor tweaks to props and drives.

I like this tread thanks for all the information, it really helps a lot. Craig

Yes, they both have swim platforms, but the Hustler has a lot more "usable" space. Have you ever been in the cabin of a 388? There is no comparison, not even close. The Fountain has at least 2-3' less space in the nose...

Yes I owned a 388 for 2 years so I'm sure of the cabin size compare getting in the V beth with the hole the 388 has cut for you to crawl thru ??,mine
well lets don't get me wound up on 388's ,I hope you love yours

good luck :D :D :D

I shouldn't even respond to this because it is such an old, abused, dragged to death topic but...Hustler, if you already had your mind made up that 388's were the biggest, fastest piece of fiberglass on earth, why did you ask?

Hustler's are great, fast boats but when is the last time a 388 Hustler won a F-2 championship or any other class championship or a race for that matter or hell even a single Kilo run? I can't think of any. Enjoy your "useable" cabin space. LOL. All boats have pro's and con's. Just leave it at that and don't argue with everyone that posts a conflicting opinion. That's my .02.:)

Well,I thinnk that all of you should ride in a VELOCITY and stop stretching the truth, because if what all of you guys are saying is true there would be different people standing on the podium holding checkerd flags.Stop the BS and face the facts,or bring your boat out and prove it.

yall still not comparing apples.
i would say fountain does the most r&d testing and bottom changes.but at the same power and weight (and length of running surface aka weted surface)there going to be close.

look at the others going to the step hull to get the speed.

i would think most v hull owners that want the most speed usally move into the tunnel hull boats ,thats what i goung to do one day.
i still like my 388 hustler, there all never fast enough, all that matters is you have fun, theres allways going to be the guy with$$$$$$$$ thats faster.

Okay lets narrow this argument down by setting some parameters by which to base our statements:

Engine/s: HP500/s "stock"
Two classes: Twins & single
Four size ranges for each:
A) Twins-32/34, 35/36, and 37/38, 40/42
B) Singles-23/24, 25/26, 27/28, 29/30

For each of the above:
1) What hull would be fastest on the river/lake?
2) What boat would go "fastest" in 2-3 confused waters?
3) What boat would cross the quarter mile line from the hole first?

Game on!...;)

If I glued a yard stick coated with fiberglass to the bow of my boat, would that make it 41'?????

I would still compare a 38 Fountain with a 388 Hustler...they weigh and measure about the same.
Have you ever owned a Fountain?
If not...you'll never understand.

Now you gotta admit that makes you wanna chuckle...:D

Okay, what about the parameters for comparison I posted above?...Stick some numbers up; include weight if you want too...

Curt -

I'm not arguing with EVERYONE. I just don't think you can compare a 38 Fountain with a 388 Hustler. I don't have a problem comparing to any other boat in the 37-40' range or even a 42 Fountain. I like Fountains and think they are fast boats. If you don't think the beak is good for about 3', that's your opinion...

The yardstick comment was only a joke guys. Lighten up a little.

No, I haven't owned a Fountain. I looked at some before I bought the Hustler. Not enough room. Again, that's my opinion please don't get your panties in a wod.
