well they were made in the good old US of A! Mr kiekaifer (is that spelt right?) made and marketed them. they have quite a nice spin on hub/retainer, with a pit pin(push button on the end to release) through the end for safety.
these gadgets were fitted in that location by the original rigger (jimmy brooker) when being set up for racing, I geuss if you were to damage a prop and need to change it whilst out on the water it's a convenient place to take and replace a heavy cleaver from when you're perched on the drives, bobbing about in a bit of chop.
anyway, it was a nice surprise to see the boat again, I've often wondered what came of it! pleasure boats of this type are quite rare in the UK coz of the ****e weather and ridiculous fuel costs (gasoline)

 I would like to see the look on the APBA race inspectors faces with 3 spare Cleaver props mounted in that location.

The 46' Cougar V bottom is 1 on my favorite boats, Next to a 41'/47' Apache of course:D

Yeah, your probably right!, remember this was 1986 tho' things were a little more lax back then in the regulation dept.
mind you, the business end of a triple rig like that is a pretty dangerous place to be anyway!

Even with the limited power of triple 465's (these were the first of the factory 502's from HP products, which gave a top end in the mid to late 70's mph), when you got that boat out in the sloppy stuff it was just fantastic! it made mincemeat of seas I wouldn't even wanna be out in, in other "lesser" boats, I just wish I could afford to run all that gasoline power over here, but at six dollars a gallon, I don't think so!

P.S. the spare props were mounted, tips towards the boat, not tips sticking out, so it could have been worse!

I believe that the Toyota boat is in Cali these days and FOR SALE but it was in kind of rough shape.
