I visited their website recently and it lists dry weight at 2980 lbs? Is that without the engine package? If so that would only make it about 5400 lbs with two 496HO's and Bravo drives installed?

Are they reasonably priced or relatively expensive? What would they (33 foot) do with a set of 496HO's?...Just curious, I don't really know much about them...

That weight (2980 lbs) is just the bare bones fiberglass with no rigging as I understand. As for the cockpit room JROMY, get outboards and there is 5 feet between the back of the bolster and the front of the rear bench. I believe '96 was the first year of the deeper hull which is 5" deeper.

That reaffirmed buying a quality for me just from a safety standpoint. I wouldn't want to be in 6-8 footers with a cheap boat that is for sure.

Sabre 28 were you in Leeland on wed. or thurs. I saw a 28 going through town, and I know there isn't that many around. just curious. Darren

nope, was not me.

there is another one that is based in northport though:)

But I think before I ordered a new one, I'd read over Robbies [Defy N Gravity] post in the Boats For Sale Forum.

Then I'd have to think real hard about where I was spending my money and what kind of service I expected after the sale.

Wise advice about an unfortunate situation.

Reckless,

My 96 with 2X502's weighs ~7400 dry.

I understand that the new 33's, with a higher X than mine, run 80 with 496 HO's.

Call Dan to confirm.

I have never actually ridden in one.....i do love the look and lines of the boats though.....I will say this about the one and only one i have been on.........they seem to be built "thin" or light....how ever you want to put it. I'm not sure if that a good or bad thing but like i said the one i was on the deck flexed when you walked on it...gave me a weird feeling like i was gonna break something. It did support my weight (195) and two other girls ontop of me at that moment but it was still weird. :)

>>seem to be built "thin" or light....

I'm sure there are a few manufacturers building lighter boats, but I have yet to ride in any that feels as solid as a PowerPlay. The ONE thing that has always stood clear in my mind was... the rigidity of PowerPlays. From the inception of the company, Danny set out to build a boat that could take the punishment of repeated offshore abuse, with out any of the bells, whistles & frills that normally break or fall off other production line boats.

Among South Florida boaters, I can tell you these boats have a reputation for being ridden hard and put away wet! And... you'de be hard pressed to find a stress crack on a 10 year old PowerPlay. I know... I've looked at a bunch of 'em and have a number of friends that have owned them.

The only boat I've ridden in... that feels as solid... is a Cigarette (and I've been in everything from an original 28' to the 46' Rough Rider). However they are generally heavier than PowerPlays. I have not ridden in the new step ventilated Cigarettes, nor any that have been manufactured under the new ownership.

I'm VERY surprised to hear the deck flexed on the boat you boarded. I'm sure you know boats, but are you sure you were on a PowerPlay?

Wally 08-19-2003 03:49 PM

Yup, i'm positive it was a powerplay....not sure on the size but it was in the mid 30's i'm sure.....and like i said....i dont know about the rest of the boat...only what i can tell you while i was walking around on the top deck of it.......the rest of the boat looked good cosmeticly....but i didnt ride in it or inspect it closely at all :)
