Default Home Theater System

A friend designed this system for me. What do you think??
Samsung HLN-617 W DLP
Dennon AVR-3805
Main & Center - PML
Rears- Not sure, have to go with a ceiling speaker
Sub - Rel Q150E
Plus a system remote, palm pilot type (forgot the name)

I would love to hear your professional opinion.

1. Nice TV
2. Great Receiver
3. PML speakers???
4. Good sub, there are better for the $$$
5. Probably a Philips Pronto remote-very popular

Overall a great package. Please elaborate on the speakers. A large portion of your budget should be on speakers. Can't go wrong with Denon electronics typically. I would look at SVS or HSU subs for a comparison to the REL. Unless you are a SACD or DVD-Audio buff, I have found it not necessary to get carried away with the cash you spend on surround speakers. The amount of info you typically get out of them pales in comparison to the front 3 speakers but they are nonetheless necessary. Spend your money on the front soundstage. What, no DVD player? Check out the Denon 2200 or 2900. Great units.

BillR is also a great resource since he owns a high-end A/V store. PM him.

Swap out the Denon for a Rotel.

If you can spend more get EAD (Enlightened Audio Design) You can spend twice as much and not get as good sound.

Speakers I havfe never heard before so I can not comment. I would also look at Triad, B&W, RBH and Dyne Audio if you are looking to put your surrounds in wall. You want them all to match sonically or you will have issues with set up.

Rell Subs are very nice and very musical but they do not have a lot of output. So I guess it depends on the size of the room that you are trying to fill. We have 5 of them in a medium size theater.

The TV I have not used before so I can not comment. I am a Runco, Pioneere Elite, and Sony guy as they have the features that I need.

Hope that helps some

Jon

If you really the best system on the planet, buy the Lexicon MC-8 and the Lexicon DVD player. The best best projector on the planet is the Sharp 10000. I finally bought this system after screwing around with the so-called pros for years on this issue. I promise you that the Sharp 10000 is unreal. It blows away the Sony and the Runco and everything else out there. And the Lexicon stuff just can't be beat for quality and accuracy. I can'ty believe the difference the Lexicon DVD player made to my system. I also have the Soony HDTV receiver. Wow, what a system! You will be very happy you looked into this equipment.

Thanks Mike,
The Pronto will be programed by the installer so that should solve that problem.
Do you have any recommendation on a ceiling speaker for the rear channel?

If you need a good dipolar rear inceiling speaker, I would suggest Sonance. Call me and describe room and seating and I can give better advice.
