Last summer boating?! C'mon man there is not a bigger boat whore on this board than you!!
:D Seriously, that sucks, at least you have some time to find another job. Good luck! |
Originally posted by stevebaretta Foul, who is JCI? 18 months to look for a job.............that sounds like a good deal. My brother in law got 30 days and I have heard of some with less. What kind of company knows that they will or will not have work 18 months out and the workers not be aware of that possibility ? Sounds like a government contract. Are you upset by this ? |
Johnson Controls Inc.
Did we not tell you a couple of months ago to start looking while you still have time in your favor? note to self: book mark this topic for use in Dec 2005 when Foul says he just got laid off. ;) Beat the others and start looking now. Good Luck |
The lay off process is quite complicated actually. My plant is losing 885 jobs total. We are the largest JCI plant in Michigan. We build automotive sun visors for all makes and models of cars and trucks. Some examples:
All Chevy trucks and SUV's have our sunvisor. Many Ford trucks. All Lincoln cars. Mustang Honda Accord Honda Element. Camry Neon Pontiac Grand Prix Pontiac Grand Am Malibu Nissan Pathfinder Lexus cars and many others There are approximately 25 assembly lines in our plant. They are moving each one individually to Ramos, Mexico in 3 week intervals (one line every 3 weeks). This process starts next month. When you mix the seniority list with the line move timing, you get a long list of start dates with layoff times. Since I am the LAST one on the seniorty list, I'm the last one layed off. I could actually get bumped all over the place as positions open up. BUT, only a couple of people with more seniority than me have to quite or get fired and my job would be safe. Not job really, but employment. Now do you get how they can tell me that my job ends in Dec. '05??? I do not want to work for JCI anymore though. Writing is on the wall. I have begun searching for a new job already. |

Did they tell you why they were moving the operations to Mexico ? I hear they have a nice country club, full-service marina and a new mall... Oh...and labor who will work for 12 cents/hr. D. Ocean Pompano Beach, FLA |
Foul, I was told last week that this is a test for JCI. If it goes well in Mexico, JCI presence in West Michigan will be gone by the end of 2005. Elsa should have sold them the buildings too.

I guess now would not be a good time to bring up a few topics like: right to work States (and their net increase in manufacturing jobs), unions, well managed companies, EPA regulations and State Governments hostile to corporations.......would it:rolleyes:
