Offshoreonly.com - (Warning)Onboard Battery Charger FIRE

Warning this was a close one:D I figured yall might want to know about this.I put my boat back into the slip Thursday nite on the lift and I plugged into shore power so the battery charger would maintain the battery's.

I started covering the boat up and started smelling electrical burning. ,then smoke started coming out of the vents ,I un plugged the shore power opened the hatch and it was full of smoke. I had a buddy plug back in to see where it was coming from . The battery charger .You could see a red glowing from the vent on top of it . FIRE. :eek: :eek: Just think a few minitus later it waited to short out then after I covered the boat up and left. The hole Pier with 50 boats would have been gone. I feel real lucky

I called the factory about it Friday and they said they had some problems with a few a while back but they have it corrected it now (No Sh*t).Something a about a diode or some circuit ...(HOW ABOUT A RECALL YOU IDIOTS)They said it was nothing I did just a problem with the charger.

It did not blow a breaker or a fuse!!!!

They said send it back no problem the would rebuild it if they could or replace it . It has a 5 year warranty.(Warranty would have not done any good if boat burned )

It is a factory installed C-Charger Charles Marine 30 amp 3 bank 5000 series marine batter charger.

It is fully automatic and I have keep a eye on it ,it has a fan and you can hear it shut of when fully charged.I leave it plugged up all year.never had a prob .

DAMMMMM :eek: :eek: here are some pictures.. I took it apart just in case if some one else had a prob and there boat burned .or if it happens again to me

Has andbody else heard or seen this???????
