I have a 2004 Avalance 2500- 4.10 gears.

MPG is 11.4 around town 13-14 hiway.

Pulling a horse trailer about 9-10 (4500#). Pull ls like a champ.

Diesels get better mileage but cost $ 5-6k more. Payback is about 80,000 miles(roughly). There is no diesel available in the Avalance or Suburban at this time.

Excalibur- the old style Suburbans did have lousy brakes- New ones are MUCH better- since 2000 body style.

I Have Been Looking At A Few Suburbans 4x4, But I Would Be Pulling Around 10,000 Pounds. I Would Like To Get One With 6.0 And 3.73 Gears Due To The Driving Around Town Which Would Be 95% Of The Time. But Do I Need To Get 8.1 With 3.73. Also Would 6.0 And 3.73 Gears Do The Job. Thanks In Advance. Scott

Yes, it will do the job. Mine is a 2001 Suburban 2500, with the 6.0 L and 3.73 gears. LT package.

Gotta love the leather heated seats in the winter! I was driving home from a skiing trip once with the heated seat on the whole way and my back felt great by the time we got home.

With the boat and trailer 10,000 lbs. I does just fine, no burnouts or 0-60 runs but it gets the job done.
