Suburban?? Towing capacity??
I am looking at a 2001 Suburban with a 6.0 L. The owner sais it has the same towing capacity as the 8.0L ... Could this be true? It is a K2500..
My boat and trailer are around 10,000.
Any advise or input would be apreciated!!

I have a 2001 Suburban LT 2500 with a 6.0L. The 2500 with the 6.0L is rated less than 10K, I think they rate it at 8500 but can't remember for sure. The brakes work great even with my trailer having no brakes (much better than the Ford brakes in my opinion)
It pull's my boat fine and it weighs 8500 lbs with a steel trailer. I would estimate I am 10K lbs with boat, trailer, gear, and fuel.
Panther.

Depends upon the Rear axle ratio.
If it is 3.73 i believe it is 10,500
A 4.10 rates 12,000 lbs.
The power is not the issue, it is the tanny/axle combo.
How many miles on it? Was it used for towing before? Does it have the tranny cooler ( a small radiator about 1 foot square in the center behind the grill?)
The long wheel base of the Suburban allows it to pull great. If you find you want more power get a Hypertech Programmer on Ebay $300 or so. and tune it. I did that with my 2000 Yukon XL 1500 and it helped.

We had a 1999 3/4 ton 7.4L that we pulled our 40 with. The power was fine but that is just not enough truck in my opinion to handle the mass of the boat. Stopping was a major problem along with wind. The truck goes where the boat wants it. Plenty of power though, i think the boat weighed between 11000-12000 then.

I am interested in buying an avalanche 2500, which only comes with the 8.1L engine. However, I am concerned about abysmal fuel mileage. Can you tell me what you are getting on your suburban ?
Thanks.

Re: Suburban?? Towing capacity??
Our gas mileage is poor as everyone has stated before. I have not measured the mileage, as it is what it is. However, I would estimate about 10-12 miles per gallon on average (non towing). The 37 gallons will take me over 350 miles before I see an idiot light come on.
I would get more truck, engine, and brake than you need. The extra in gas is worth your safety!
