Dodge 1500 hemi question
What is your real world milage for the 1500 with hemi -vs- 4.7L 4x4's?
I'm trying to decide if I should buy one today (replace my Dakota) but am concerned after all the comments about terrible hemi gas milage on the ford-vs-hemi thread. It would be my daily driver, with a 90 mile rt daiy commute. Have found two equiped like I would want at $25k (which I think is a pretty good price, 8-9k off sticker). Need to decide if I'm going to go look at them this afternoon or not.

2003 1500 Hemi Quad Cab
12 MPG around town
15 MPG on highway
11 MPG towing boat on highway 27 Fountain Fever
Its a blast to drive with the 20" wheels and low profile tires making it handle like a sports car. Add the 345 hp Hemi pushing it and I smile all day.

Re: Dodge 1500 hemi question
My friend has a hemi dodge... I drive one with the 360... he gets at least 2-3 mpg better than I do. I get between 11-12 on the friggen highway.
Rambunctious drives an 04 Ford F-150 with the 5.4... he's not happy with his fuel mileage.
Do you plan to tow with this truck? If so, I would question the 4.7 choice.

Oh, and I get a whopping 7.5 mpg towing the Baja. The hemi tows way better as far as gas mileage is concerned.

Re: Dodge 1500 hemi question
My co-worker has a new F-150 with the 5.4 and he said he is getting 13 & 15. However his truck still has less than a thousand miles on it. Perhaps it might get better.
I wonder if the HEMI will ever enter the marine market? It seems to me like it would be a perfect candidate.

Re: Dodge 1500 hemi question
hmmm hemi is that anything like fords brilliant mustang II advertising ploy, getting 345 hp from a v8 with todays tech isn't ground breaking, the old hemi's were king o the street... with todays hemi you gotta watch out for a bad azz in a honda civic, he might clean that hemi's clock. automakers whore out the Namesake of classics all the time i think thats the pits. just my .02

Re: Dodge 1500 hemi question
My dakota gets 16-17 (15 if my wife drives it), 15 I could probably live with. My dually (454) only got 10 which was murder. I've towed my Corvette maybe once every year or so, so towing isn't a real factor.

Re: Dodge 1500 hemi question
2004 Dodge Durango Limited 4x4, Hemi of course.
~14-15 mpg around town, 17.5 on a 400 mile trip, running about 80 mph most of the time.
It is not a very fuel efficient package; then again, if you want good gas mileage, buy a Honda
