dodge 5.9 vs 5.7 hemi ?

I drove both recently. The 5.9 is a dog compared to the hemi. The only hemi trucks they had at the time were 2500 quad cab 4wd (heavy) and it would blow away the 5.9 1500 (light). Gas milage is supposed to be 15% better with the hemi also. The salesman kept telling me to punch it when we were driving the 5.9. I had to keep telling him it was on the floor!
I am waiting on a Hemi 1500 to come in now. It is supposed to come in on the 28th.

I'd agree.....5.9 is a bit of a dog. I like mine, but I had a 5.2 in my last truck, so anything was an improvement in that department. As for mileage, the 5.9 SUCKS really bad. I get about 11 on the highway and 7.5 towing 6800 lbs. My 5.2 got 14 on the highway and 10 towing the same damn trailer!!!

I was at a large dodge dealer for along time.. I have driven and seen all the stuff on both.. the hemi is abouta 900 option but worth every penny.... 100 more hp with better gas milage..I am sure the dealer will push the 5.9 on you and tell you they will not deal on 5.7 but they are on a turn and earn basis so they will deal just as much if push comes to shove

I test drove a new Dodge with the 5.7 today. It was a Quad Cab 2500 2wd. All I can say is WOW! Right next door is a Ford dealer, and I drove an F 250 4x4 with the 5.4. There is no comparison on the power. The Dodge blew it away. I am disapointed that Dodge dropped the super cab. I don't like the look of the quad cab. My last two trucks were both Fords and I love the 5.4. My current one has 108,000 miles on it with only oil changes and a couple air filters. I am up in the air on which to buy. I know the 5.4 Ford will run forever and get good gas mileage, but the power of the Dodge was considerably more. I also like the interior of the Dodge better, it has quite a few usefull bells and whistles on it. I have the salesman working me up a price on ordering one the way I want it (2500/5.7/Laramie/4wd/Longbed. I priced a Ford comparably equiped at $31.5K. If the Dodge comes in around the same, I may go with it.
Has anyone bought the new 5.7 and what mileage is it getting?

If gas mileage is anything of a concern go DIESEL !!!!! There is nothing like it.
A friend of my dad's has the new Hemi (don't know if it is a 1500 or 2500) and likes the power but did complain about the gas mileage ....something like 13 MPG and I really don't know what kind of driving. But to me that is pretty close to the 360 (5.9) gas guzzelling slug bucket motor. Can you tell I had one of those ?!!??!?
