28-32 boat - Single 525EFI VS TWIN 496 HO's
Regardless the initial $ difference on purchase, some simple questions and considerations :
Money wise comparison basis : 28-32 foot boat with TWIN 496 HO’s VS Single525EFI
1-Maintenance cost difference over the years? Is it me or have I always read that you’l have to rebuild the racing engines on 250-300 hours intervals? On the other hand, I heard about 1 000 hours stories on 496 without touching them…? + the rebuild costs on a racing engine with expensive internals would be way over the cost of a 496 rebuild?
2-Fuel consumption : Am I wrong or the difference in fuel would’nt be that significant ?
You single minded fans, get me back on planet Earth please cause I am slowly but surely converting my poor brain two twin screw ownership.
Is there any pros owning the 525 over the twin HO's???
I have met a guy who paid 65 000$ canadian for a single merc 575 and Bravo XR for HIS 29 Outlaw when He could have bought the same boat with HO's for a lot less $$$ and more speed...???

Just go with twin 525's and the problem is solved
I think a lot would depend on what boat they are going in and the performance #'s of each package.

Twins all the way. The boat handles soooooo much better at the dock, you always get home with two motors, twin 496's will outrun the single 525, and, add the new CMI headers and you're really flying.
