Default What oil to use?

Okay guys, I read the "MARINE LUBRICATION" thread and got WAY lost.... now I still have the same question.... here goes...

Just rebuilt 454's, mild cam, heads, and exhaust, suposed to go on Dyno this week, I need to determine what oil and filter to use. Please, keep it simple for a simpleton.... THANKS!!

Flat tappet cam?
If you're going to break in the cam, you better use a non-synthetic oil with an abundance of ZDDP. I'll let the experts chime in on the selection of choice.

If your clearences are middle of the road kendall gt-1 40wt with a bottle of gm eos for extra zddp. If your clearences are loose, kendall gt-1 50wt. If you boat in fairly cold water kendall gt-1 20-w50. Seems like a good performance oil thats reasonably priced,I use it in all my performance motor's. If you can afford it switch to a good brand name synthetic AFTER your sure motor is broken in. If your running a flat tappet cam use the 15-40 diesel oil hydro talks about for breakin. If you go on his oil thread there is a abundance of info, every one has there personal favorite though,Smitty

That's what I was thinking too.

Personally... I am a Mobil One filter/ dinosaur oil guy.

Hmm, and both Crane and Comp Cams reccomend Rotella.
But then again all I've ever used was 40W Rotella.

the best oil to use in a new marine mtr is the merc 25-40 other then that stay away from multi grades use straight 30 or 40 wgt oil do not do not use 15 40 or sysnthetics for break in

keep in mind that most multi grades are made for cars turning 1500 rpms at 65 mph not turning 4000 rpms
