Steel. My cam isn't as hot as yours though; http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...31&lvl=2&prt=5

Cam card calls for 0.20, we set the lash .14 hot. Ran 60 hours last year, just pulled the intake manifold off Saturday to inspect the cam/lifters/pushrods etc...barely any sign of wear. It's time to lash again and go another season.

yep that is what i am talking about and i know who told you to do it guys i run aluminum heads AFR's with T&D,s and what we have found is to run the lash a little tighter then the manf. calls for ie if they call for .025 i set at .020 0r even down to .018 also i ajust valves on motor new then after we run on dyno and after about 10 hrs then you can let them go for a while depending on the cam. with the T&D's what i have found is they don't change unless there is something going away. i checked mine at the end of the year 2 years ago and had one valve loose after pulling the lifters out i found one wheel that the roller bearing was about to go, that is when i put in the new lifters in thank god i checked them. i had the old type of iskey lifters in the motor. also as for a hyd roller i have used some of the cranes and they seem to be holding up good i have been told they are what merc is using.

Is the purpose of setting the lash tighter to keep the launch on the backside to a smaller dimension?

Either way, easy enough to do and I am with Mr Gadgets, anything to make them live.

As a matter of fact I've always done it, even with the solid flat tappet cams I had in my Scarab!

A while back I usually went .002 tighter on the intake than the exhaust, my thinking was the hot exhaust valve would grow more than the intake. Seems these days a lot of the manufacturers go even on both.

Took my cam to the tool and die shop, did a rockwell test on it. Tested in several places, hard to get a cam in the fixture, but areas that showed little wear were 61-62. Top of one lobe, severe damage, had 58. So I dont believe the cam was the problem.
Still havent had a chance to check valve tips.. next step.

Thanks Guys!

Dick

Thanks for the sweetheart deal on these. I feel guilty getting them so affordable. The service after the sale was the icing on the cake
