Steel. My cam isn't as hot as yours though; http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...31&lvl=2&prt=5
Cam card calls for 0.20, we set the lash .14 hot. Ran 60 hours last year, just pulled the intake manifold off Saturday to inspect the cam/lifters/pushrods etc...barely any sign of wear. It's time to lash again and go another season.

Is the purpose of setting the lash tighter to keep the launch on the backside to a smaller dimension?
Either way, easy enough to do and I am with Mr Gadgets, anything to make them live.

As a matter of fact I've always done it, even with the solid flat tappet cams I had in my Scarab!
A while back I usually went .002 tighter on the intake than the exhaust, my thinking was the hot exhaust valve would grow more than the intake. Seems these days a lot of the manufacturers go even on both.

Took my cam to the tool and die shop, did a rockwell test on it. Tested in several places, hard to get a cam in the fixture, but areas that showed little wear were 61-62. Top of one lobe, severe damage, had 58. So I dont believe the cam was the problem.
Still havent had a chance to check valve tips.. next step.
Thanks Guys!
