I think you might have had belts more like mine on your last blowers if they were 250's?
the pop of plate is designed for idle backfire protection,if you are at 8 lbs boost,at wot,and it backfires,rib belt or cogbelt,you will have damage,usually busted intake manifold and maybe bent rotors
