It is not a hole but an approx 1/2" thick "plate" that is part of the casting....maybe 4" X 6".

Hmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,wonder what that mounting hole is for then ? Cause no part of my set-up was mounted to it.

cougarman,
Just curious as to why you have decided to not use those pans any more. Did you have any problems with them? I am looking at pans and trying to decide on one. Also do those pans clear a stock Mercruiser sea water pump, the kind mounted by the fuel pump. And do they clear a stock positioned oil filter.
Thanks Jim

Jim,

NO problems with the pans, Switching to Dry Sump pans and pumps.

And yes to all your other questions they clear all item's.
To give you a little history, these were originally built by Stotler if you follow the race circuit at all. Freshend by Carolina Racing, and then Chief Engines changed a few things on the top side of the engines.

Guess what I'm getting at is I feel they are quaility parts and they were the choice of a very qualified engine builder also.

Hope that helps with your concerns. They are very robust also.

Thanks again
Jon

Jon,
Depending on the set up, I believe the hole was mostly used for the attaching the adjusting arm on a low mount alternator.
