Default Do I really need Drive showers for my TRS?

Do I really need them on my 33ft Fountain with about 450hp per side? If so which one is the best on the TRS? The most I hear of are on Bravo's.

Default Uhmmm...

In my honest opinion, it depends greatly on how you drive. No doubt that you want some trips to WOT, say every 20 minutes for 19 minutes each time. The $140 is cheap insurance for a $4000 drive replacement or less with just gears.
Check with Paul Kermis at Simrek. He's great to work with. I ordered mine on a Saturday, Paul answered the phone, gave him the credit card number and the shower was here by Thursday.
For the Simrek, check out driveshowers.com

Yeah, I put a Simrek shower on my TRS this spring just because Paul started building them for the old TRS's. But, what I hear is that you probably don't have a problem unless you start to notice some "chalking" on the upper gearcase. I'm putting 550+ HP into mine and I do launch it on occassion and had no problems before. I do use a good synthetic, however. [for me Amsoil 75/90 race; but everyone on this board has their own opinions on what to/not to use] In your case I think the purchase and instillation would only be buying you some peace of mind. They don't really cost that much and they sure can't hurt. If it feels good---do it! --- Jer

I put showers on my old Alpha's (330 HP big blocks) and noticed a lot less foaming in the oil reservours. I had never seen any of the "chalking" that is often talked about.

I now have TRS with probably 475 HP motors. Running Royal Purple synthetic I've never seen any foaming in the reservors. I thought about showers but don't really think I need them. I've never felt the drives getting hot (at least not enough to still be warm by the time I come off plane and reach down to check them).

gregP,

You must have some long arms!

Seriously though, us boaters are an extremely analytical/technical group. Only the US could come up with an avocation like powerboating. I love the fact that evertime I "break out another thousand" it's for stuff made here (and only here) in the good old USA!!!!!!!!

Sorry to digress.

I havent heard of many people using drive showers on TRS because they are built so heavy and solid compared to Bravos
But I guess if you run enough hp and rpms and you run hard all the time you might need them.

if it helps you sleep at night, by all means, get yourself a shower or two if you have twins. in my opinion they aren't necessary on a TRS. my TRS's are 17 years old, never been rebuilt, (except new carrier bearings and seals on propshafts from corrosion) and they push a 13,600LB load. i run the merc. green goo in them by the way.
