There are different types. Some installed where block adapter is where std BBC oil filter location is. Some mounted on the back of the head like the stock hp 500 ones and others mounted in between. My guess is you don't have one. Just do a google search on marine oil thermostats and hit images. You'll have 4 oil hoses going to it regardless where it's located. Not difficult to install but if your looking for a good after market one look at Earls. Nice piece for the price. Around 110.00 if I recall. Options are endless but simpler you keep it the better. You will also see oil line routing pics on the net with oil coolers. The tstats are labled well.

With the majority of the running you do chances are your oil tstats wouldn't even open. The thermostat is important however I'd be willing to be you could eliminate your oil cooler all together and still be under 240 oil temps. Many boats runnning around with oil stats that don't see high enough temps to utilize oil coolers. A lot just depends on boating charteristics etc. Just keep in mind that 784 hp is gonna wanna get up and cut loose on a bigger pond someday and will be comforting to know you'll be ready for it. Won't take long to build heat with your blower on a good run in the right water with a case of beer in you. Lol.

Imo I'd install the t stat, big blocks like hot oil, the cooler the oil , like said above more condensation. Don't be scared to run 200+ after a run.
