Low Oil Pressure
I've got 2 Gen VI 502's, port motor is showing low oil pressure, same at idle or at 4800 rpm. They are Merc gauges so I can only tell you that the needle is just above the red.
No knocks, or temp problems, oil level is good, and they are making plenty of power so I'm thinking that it is the sending unit.
Can anyone tell me where on the engine it is located?

Mine (one GenVI, one GenV) are behind the intake, slightly on the port side. Check the pressure with a mechanical gauge. They're fairly cheap. Or you can swap senders from engine to engine. If the problem follows the sender you've found the it.

Thanks Crazyhorse, I was planning on swapping them and see if the indication appeared on the other engine. I appreciate the info.

I also have the same problem with my 502 MPI. I have checked it with a mechanical gauge at idle and at 3500. The mechanical gauge showed 40 psi at idle and 50 psi at 3500 (engine cold). So I figured that it was the sending unit, I replaced the sending unit and check the gauge but still have the same conclusion. I have noticed that the gauge is more accurate when the engine is cold, as the temp comes up the gauge seems to stabilize at 40psi at any rpm. My engine is still under warranty until Feb 04. I had a manifold air temp sender go bad a few months ago, so I had Dick Simon Marine Replace the sender and check out the oil psi. When I picked up the boat they said that everything was fine and that they did a full check. The boat still runs great no knocking or any abnormal noise. If the engine dose happen to let go it will just give me a reason to build a bigger one.

Guys, I really appreciate all your feedback. I was consoling myself in the fact that the engine only has 300 hours, is still running strong with no abnormal indications such as temp or noise, but it is still a bad feeling to see that gauge laying over so low. I am really anticipating the gauge being bad as when you turn both ignition keys to "on" the starboard gauge stays on the "L" but the port gauge, the engine with low pressure indication, lays all the way over to the left.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
