Default Oil Pressure to low?

My new 383 sbc has 5 hrs boat time on it running 20-50 oil with a Milodon Oil System.
Thing is all I see is 40 psi pressure, whether it's idling or running 5200 RPM.
The engine builder tells me 40 is just fine as it's a high volume system...... does this make sense??
Any thoughts???

thanks

There are definately two schools of thought on "ideal" oil pressure. Both "schools" have valid points so I think it comes down to builder preferences. As fellow OSO'r Wette Vette (A mechanical engineer and fluid dynamics guru) has pointed out to me, make sure you understand the differences between pressure and flow. At 45 PSI you'll have more flow of oil through the bearings than at 60 PSI. Is that good or bad, Thats why I leave it up to the builders, its over my head.
